STANDARD PRACTICE - CODE 5 REF. NO. 5.2

DEVELOPMENT CLEANING

OBJECTIVE

To provide Supervisors, Miners and Operators with the required knowledge to enable them to
organise and clean the development ends in the required sequence, in an efficient and safe
manner and with minimal equipment damage.

5.2.1 DEVELOPMENT ENDS TO BE LOADED

1. Loading will be planned by Tramming Shift Supervisor and Production Shift Supervisor.
The system will be:

a. At the start of each shift I.E. 06h00, 14h00 and 23h00 a meeting will be held. Persons
attending this meeting will include -

Morning, afternoon and night shift Tramming Shift Supervisors, and the oncoming shift,
Shift Supervisors.

b. After each such meeting the Tramming Shift Supervisor in charge will ensure that the
planned cleaning programme for the shift is written onto the black boards at five level tip,
at the surface workshop and communicated to the cleaning Team Supervisors.

c. On a daily basis, each morning, the previous three shift performance will be evaluated and
reasons for non achievement investigated by the team.

d. The Shift Supervisor in charge of the tramming will be informed by the Production Shift
Supervisor of loading required in his section.

e. Entry into any blasted end will only be permitted if arrangements have been made by the
Tramming Shift Supervisor to comply with the re - entry concessions. Permission
to enter prior to the arrival of the blasting certificate holder will be given by the miner
in writing to the Team Supervisor in a book provided for this purpose (UPM 214).

On each of these shifts the Tramming Shift Supervisor and the Engineering Technician will
liaise frequently and are both accountable for the tonnage called for on the production shift
that they are in charge of.

5.2.1 DEVELOPMENT ENDS TO BE LOADED (cont.)

2. Instructions given to the tramming Team Supervisors for the shift they will supervise must
be given to them by the Tramming Shift Supervisor in charge in writing at the start of the
shift. These instructions will be in a note book which they will have with them at all times
underground.

3. Initial examination and watering down of each end to be loaded will be done by the Team
Supervisors prior to the commencement of loading operations. Each LHD operator will
have a hose available to do any additional watering down during the shift. In practice it is
expected that the operator and the Supervisors work as a team and have machine loading as
soon as practically possible after the start of shift.

4. Safety practices during loading operations that will be communicated frequently to the
operators will be :

i. Do not operate under bad hanging.

ii. Keep all four wheels on the ground whilst loading.

iii. Under no circumstances operate vehicle when brakes are defective.

iv. Lower bucket to rest on ground whenever you leave the vehicle.

v. Do not let the engine idle when vehicle is unattended.

vi. Do note operate in unventilated areas.

vii. Under no circumstances operate vehicle when it has no lights.

viii. Observe and obey traffic rules at all times.

ix. Do not allow people to stand in “V” area of vehicles articulation.

x. Adhere to mine standards.

xi. Ensure no person is endangered in the vicinity of the LHD while it is loading.

xii. Do not load ASD’s or Roadways where the winch is tipping unless specific instructions
of how to do so are given to safeguard operators by the Supervisor.

5.2.1 DEVELOPMENT ENDS TO BE LOADED

5. The Tramming Shift Supervisor will ensure that :

a. Only certificated and appointed operators are permitted to operate any trackless equipment.
A trainee operator may only operate a machine under the direct supervision of the
appointed operator and instructor and then only as directed by the Engineer and the
Workshop / Contracts Manager.

b. All persons in TM 3 area must wear high visibility reflective belts.

6. Loading techniques will be as depicted in the sketches.

Loading is not permitted if the face is full of water because there can be damage to tyres
from submerged rocks, and wheel spin will result in excessive tyre wear and unnecessary
tyre cuts.

- Ensure pumps , columns, ropes and rocks are out of the roadway.

- Slow down and lower bucket well back from the muckpile whilst continuing approach.
(i.e. ± 50 metres from broken rock).

- Clean and level roadway - clean fly dirt first.

- When rockpile is reached drive bucket into the pile and accelerate.

- Watch the accumulations of rock against sidewall which could cause tyre damage (sidewall
tyre cuts ) remove these.

- Report roadways which do not have square / level footwall.

- Alternate quick movements of the bucket tilt valve lever will help to work the rock into
the bucket.

- Fill up potholes by back scraping with bucket to ensure good tyre grip for best efficiency
i.e. less damage to machine and less damming up of water.

7. Team Supervisor in charge of loading operations will by the quickest means available
report any problems when they arise to the tramming Shift Supervisor, the Technician
and radio controller on duty. Where necessary machines will be re deployed and planning
changed to minimize any negative influence caused by breakdowns or delays.

5.2.2 SCRAPER CLEANING

i. Raises will be cleaned by means of winches and scrapers. The rigs will be as depicted
in the standard sketches.

ii. The winch will be located in a cubby of 3,0 metres depth. Winch to be sited with drums
1,0 metre from the side of the roadway.

iii. The winch will be equipped as per winch equipment standard requirements (Code 4 Ref.
4.9 ).

iv. Only trained, appointed drivers will operate the winch.

v. Both ropes will be elevated by means of 200mm snatch blocks suspended from the
hangingwall 3,0 m in front of winch.

vi. The scraper scoop must be left at least 5 metres from edge of Roadway or ASD by the winch
operator at the end of the scraping shift (to prevent scoop from falling onto any persons
travelling in roadway or ASD.
