Subject: Reg- Invitation for One-Day Awareness Program on Energy Conservation Building Code

Dear Sir,
It is my pleasure to invite you and the Urban Development Department on behalf of ECBC Cell
Karnataka Phase-3 to attend a One-Day Awareness Program on Energy Conservation Building Code to be
held at TERI Office, Bengaluru, on 18 th July 2019. The Government of Karnataka is actively
considering Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) compliance for all prospective buildings and the
inclusion of mandatory ECBC clauses in Karnataka Municipal Building Rules is also under process.
As part of the successful implementation of ECBC in the State of Karnataka, an ECBC Cell Phase-3 has
been set up at Office of Chief Architect, PWD Building by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development
Limited (KREDL), which being given technical assistance by The Energy Resource Institute (TERI). The ECBC
Cell provides technical support to Architectural Department as well as other Departments regarding ECBC.
This calls for the capacity building of the concerned building sector professionals; architects, civil and
MEP engineers as they are having an important role in design and execution of energy efficient buildings. In
this regard I request you to depute engineers and architect from the Urban Development Department for
this awareness program so that the officers are well equipped with the basics of the code. It will also help
them to take part in future training program to be conducted by the ECBC Cell Karnataka Phase-3 for the
year 2019-20, which will concentrate on detailed training of the code and will also include training on energy
simulation software.
The training is being organized under the implementation of ECBC initiative by Government of
Karnataka, with the overarching goal of strengthening technical capacity for increased consideration and use
of the ECBC in decision-making aimed at tackling Energy Efficiency issues. Experienced Master Trainers of
ECBC have been invited to this program to train the building sector professionals.
The participation from the Urban Development Department will add to one of the important
sections participants related to building development in the State of Karnataka. This program will help the
engineers and architects to be aware of the code and its compliance method.
