EVENT - Memory items?

-ANC:
*Aviate: ‘FMA’s, A/P, A/THR status, which law’ Airplane in safe situation?
Try AP1 or AP2 and autothrust
*Navigate: MSA (‘We are above (ECAM)/below (no ECAM) MSA), do I need
Slow down? HDG to a sensible direction etc? Level off? SID? PPOS hold?
*Communicate: ‘MAYDAY’ (squawk 7700), ‘Attention crew at stations’ (seatbelt
signs on) RVSM? Etc.

- Above MSA yes or no? Safe flight path? (START TIMER) “Read ECAM & ECAM actions”.

“ECAM actions complete, my radios’’

‘I would like you to fly the plane, so your controls my radio’s’ (If the airplane status allows, keep RT when managing
failure).

T-DODAR

DIAGNOSE LAND ASAP RED/AMBER?

USE STATUS PAGE & RESOURCES (CABIN CREW, MOC, FCOM, QRH ETC)

Diagnose the problem with confirmation to the FCOM, ECAM & Systems, overhead panel etc.

First 3 questions for trigger:

Weather: Landing capability affected?
Endurance: Endurance affected? Diagnose fuel/TIME!!
Performance: Landing distance/Go-around performance affected? Overweight?!

(Check QRH summary for EMER ELEC and DOUBLE HYD FAIL for phase of flight (what needs to be done))

OPTIONS

‘Continue, divert, return?’

- ND on NAV 160NM & Closest airports on FMGS.
- Use EFB to check routes, airports & type approach with minimums in unfamiliar area.

‘Get weather, rwy and type of approach in use for options.’

Discuss options together, ask input, risks/benefits each option:

- Weather
- Endurance (time & Fuel) distance x10 +100kg or QRH in flight perf G.4
- Performance (calculate landing distance (with new Vapp if applicable))
- Notams (CCI)
- Airport (CCI) MEL: Can we leave with this problem? MOC!
- Terrain

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU DISCUSSED TWO GOOD OPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DECIDE

MAKE A SOUND AND CLEAR DICISION AND SAY IT OUT LOUD!

ACTIONS

‘I am going to talk to ATC, give the Cabin crew a NITS briefing and tell the passengers (and company if time) what
we are going to do. ‘If you feel comfortable and have time left, can you program the FMGS as much as possible?’

Tell everyone and point to the direction you need to go!

- ATC: ‘Radar vector for 15nm final ILS/VOR/Hold etc.’ What do I need, intentions, what do I want.
- Cabin Crew: ‘Senior Cabin Crewmember to the FD/interphone (in case of smoke):
*Nature: (In case of engine/fuel/fire/wing problems, tell wich side.
*Intentions
*Time
*Specials: Precautionary/Emergency landing etc. (They need minimum 10 minutes)
- Pax PA: NITS Format à Seatbelt signs on
- Company (If time)

1
Go through (FCOM) special cxlists: gravity gear extension, flap stuck, hydraulic (gear & flap) etc.

NORMAL BRIEF

Weather (in descent and at DEST/ALTNs)

Aircraft status (In flight failures, A/C variant, OEB’s, MEL ADD-1
Notams (including reference to airport Category/CCI TEM effective date and content as applicable)
Threats & mitigation
Turbulence
Terrain

TOPHAT

NON NORMAL BRIEF USE ‘STATUS PAGE’ FOR IMPLICATIONS DURING APPROACH, GO-AROUND, LANDING, ROLL OUT

How are we going to fly this, special considerations and treats & mitigation with this failure in the different stages of
the approach. (Gear: early landing clearance, no gear up in go around, direct law, nsw steering, braking etc. Flap:
longer final, go around considerations, diversion/circuit etc. Hyd: gear/flap, recovering of pumps and systems later
stage of flight etc. etc. etc. USE QRH SUMMARY WHEN NEEDED.

REVIEW

Review the whole DODAR.

- ‘Did anything change? Do we have new information? Did we identify the problem correctly?’

!!!!!!MONITOR TIME & FUEL!!!!!!

ANY QUESTIONS? (CABIN SECURE?) “EXTEND CENTERLINE, ACTIVATE APPROACH & APPROACH CXLIST”

Take control at suitable time and moment (Downwind) and if airplane allows for landing.

WEPNAT

Weather:

• Multiple wx’s with rwy and type of approach in use for different airports
• CATI, CATII, CATIIIa, CATIIIb Wx?
• No autoland
- Outside wind limits
- Narrow rwy (Limitations? Recommendations FCOM)
- Slope outside -2.5, -3,15 range
- Elevation >2500ft
• Contamination? Cx Landing performance, Braking action downgrade, xwind limit. Landing without antiskid
not recommended

CATII or CATIII conditions & contaminated rwy?:

Cx Cold Weather Quick Reference 4.2 Winter Ops – Landing guide table!

Endurance:

TIMEà Slats/Flaps/Gear out/Fuel leak etc.

Slats: fuel x 1.6

Flaps: fuel x 1.8
Slats & Flaps: fuel x 2.0
Gear: fuel x 2.8 (Holding with gear down? Take Flap 1 (slats out) as per QRH to safe fuel, NOT in icing conditions)

- Distance closest airports x10 +100kg or QRH in flight perf G.4

Performance:

- Landing distance needed & available

- Go around performance
- Overweight?
- F3/Ffull landing, braking options?
- Vapp increments due to failure/gusty xwind >20kts, ice accretion? (Vapp minimum Vls+5, max Vls+15)
- (N-1) acc alt
- Narrow rwy: nsw steering inop? One or more brakes inop?No dispatch from/to narrow rwy.
Diversion to 45m or more rwy recommended in case of:
+ Rudder jam
+ Rudder pedal jam
+Yaw damper system fault
+All failures leading to the loss of NWS (HYD Yellow system loss, double HYD failure, double BSCU fault,
double LGCIU fault)
