Final Reflection Essay

Benjamin Franklin once said “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me

and I learn.” This is so true you have to get involved and be willing to be taught. This year has

been incredible. I have learned and been involved in so many things. During this 2019-2020 year

my English writing skills have developed so much and in so many ways. Some of these things

that I have been able to develop more are attention to detail, able to write for a longer period, and

to stay focused on the subject that I chose or that my teacher chose. All of these things together

bring a great report or assignment.

The detail that I put in an essay at the beginning of this year was pathetic. It was almost like

one of those essays where they say this happened and then this happened and so on and so forth.

Before this year I would write as simple as possible and it would be straight to the point. Over

the course of this year I have been able to use new writing techniques to develop my writing to

sound and feel better. I learned a lot when Mrs. Burr taught us about writing and how to revise it

so it could become better and better. One of the best helps when I was learning to write better

was the style academy that started you very simple and slowly got harder and harder until you

wrote something that was on the college level.

At the beginning of this year I really sucked at writing and could bearly write a one page

paper. Throughout English 1010 and 2010 I have been able to write a ton and a lot more than one

page. When Mrs. Burr told us about the 6 page paper. I was a little nervous because that's a lot of

information and writing but I told myself that I can do it and that even though it’s a lot of words

that I’m going to exceed my own expectations. With that assignment I was definitely surprised

by what I had accomplished. Length in a paper is one of the hardest things because you don't

want to ramble on and on but you have to have good content with the appropriate length.

Staying focused during the course of a whole essay was quite hard especially when I wanted

to add something that was somewhat related but not really. I would add it to get length but it

would detract from the overall topic. I call these situations “squirrels” they distract you from

your topic and are not important. Over the course of this year specifically English 2010 I have

been able to focus my research and time on my one topic how farming has impacted everyday

life. To be able to dive deep down into a topic like this was really amazing and fun.

Over this 2019 - 2020 school year I have been able to write and demonstrate my skills in the

English relm by being able to stay focused, pay better attention to detail, and be able to write a

lot more than what was expected of myself. I am so glad that I was able to take this class to learn

and develop as a writer and to be more efficient in what I am trying to communicate.
