Objective:
Description:
Core samples were received 3rdFebruary, 2020. Their rock types were determined to be
limestone, sandstone and siltstone respectively. Mud acid was used on Sandstone and siltstone
to determine their solubility.
Solubility test was done in a two-stage process i. e. for preflush using only HCl and main stage
having mud acid as the recipe. Representative core samples were crushed, dried and 3.0 grams
were taken from sandstone and siltstone cores and added to 100ml of acid solution in a cylinder.
The mixed sample in 15% HCl acid solution was placed in dry oven set at 97C for four (4) hours,
thereafter removed; cooled, filtered and measured. The resulting weight was compared with the
initial weight and solubility in HCl acid calculated.
200 ml of HCl 15% solution was prepared with the following recipe:
Description Total / m3 Unit
Water 560 l
31.6%HCl 440 l
Mud acid recipe in the ration of 12.5%HCl: 2.5%HF was prepared as below and the remaining
crushed sample from first solubility test was again mixed with mud acid solution and placed in
dry oven set at 97C for four (4) hours. After 4 hours , the mixture was filtered, dried and weight
measured.
