ABSTRACT
Social interaction is a reciprocal relationship between individuals, between
individual and group or between group and group. Without social interaction,
daily activity cannot be established well. Integrated play group is a game that
integrates non-autistic children to autistic ones so that they can interact well,
accept differences, and non-autistic children do not discriminate autistic children
in their group. The objective of this research is to investigate whether there is an
effect of integrated play group on social interaction peer social interaction with
autistic children in Grade 1 of Al Firdaus Inclusive Primary School of Surakarta.
This research used the quantitative quasi experimental research method
with one group pretest-posttest without control group design. Purposive sampling
was used to determine its samples. The samples consisted of 22 respondents. The
data of the research were analyzed by using the Wilcoxon’s Signed Rank Test.
The result of the analysis shows that the p-value was 0.000 (α < 0.05),
meaning that the integrated play group had an effect on the peer social
interaction with autistic children in Grade 1 of Al Firdaus Inclusive Primary
School of Surakarta.
Thus, the integrated play group can be used as an intervention to improve
social interaction between peers with autistic children because the game that they
play in group will develop the senses of mutual understanding, empathy, and
cooperation between the members of a group.
