PART B: Reflection

In this reflection task, the initial situation was to organize the group to collaborate to complete
the work at hand as smoothly as possible. Fortunately, the tasks at hand was to work on the leadership
assignment which was modular in nature. The works at hand could be easily divided in to several parts
and the tasks were smoothly distributed as per the general liking of the members. This was a great
opportunity for us and as working as part of a team has become an integral required skillset for the
successful business person, so we thankfully accepted this challenge. It was implicit for all the group
members to work on their own parts and also to collaborate to see that all group members have
understood as to what is to be done. It was clear to all of us that efficiency, effectiveness, creativeness
and quality of work produced by a coherent team of individuals will always outperform the work
produced by an individual. Thus, in line with this understanding, we all came forward to help each other
to expedite the work and try and produce the best work ever.

All the tasks were evenly distributed and my individual task was to work on third part which
was to describe the approach to leadership. After selecting the leader on whom we had to write, my
task also included to draw on at least one leadership theory from the academic literature. I also
consulted with my colleagues to write on this part and then I proceeded to get the evidence to support
my viewpoint of the leadership approach undertaken by the leader we chose. Further, on this I also
brought forth two specific examples of actions the leader had undertaken so as demonstrate the
particular leadership approach the selected leader had adopted.

As I fully appreciate and acknowledge the efficacy of the group work and collaboration, so after
completing my part, the further actions I undertook was to touch base with my other group members
and ascertain the status of their work. I forwarded my portion to them and also requested them if I
could access their parts so that we can collate all the parts to make it look a coherent piece of work. The
collation part went very well and so was, I think my part, to complete my activities. This is all a learning
process and I thought that before starting our work we could have one or two joint meetings to
brainstorm on the complete set of activities. This brainstorming would make amply clear and help to
produce the work much faster and with quality.

I think the combined results of all the actions we undertook was a reasonably good piece of
work. Above all, I learnt how to work in a group and take other’s viewpoint. I also learnt as to how to
keep my points as well and provide a convincing argument. I also learnt that how one really becomes a
leader as one who imposes his own points or arguments on others without proper justification is not
acceptable to the group. There was a member who became a natural group leader without our election
as he sorted the problems of each one of us, kept all his points convincingly and even distributed the
work. Overall it was a great learning and I am thankful to the University to provide me this opportunity.
