Stating Your Intention

If a question were to ask…

Companies that emit smoke must be shut down by the government. Do you agree or disagree? Explain your answer.

You could begin with…

(1) In this essay, I will explain​ why these companies should not be necessarily shut down.
(2) This essay will focus on the ways companies can change their processes so that they can become compliant with
environmental policies

Or maybe…
Some teachers believe that technology has improved the quality of education of the youth of today, while others believe
that it has actually been a hindrance or even great distraction. Which side would you take and why?

Could be…

(1) ​With this essay, I will enumerate the reasons behind the validity of the belief that technology is actually

(2) This essay will review both the benefits and the disadvantages of technology on today’s education and arrive at
a conclusion based on presented facts or data.

Adding Emphasis

You could add emphasis to a specific point in your essay…

(1) Based on the progress rate of global warming, ​these companies must be shut down the soonest possible
time.
(2) ​Government environmental regulations seem to be one-sided when it comes to establishing guidelines for
compliance for companies that emit smoke.

One more for emphasis…
