Chapter 1 – Lucy Looks into a Wardrobe
1. Explain why the children were sent away from London. It is World War II, and they are sent
out of London because of the air raids.
2. Name the four children. Lucy, Peter, Susan, Edmund
3. Who lives in the house where the children are sent? It is the Professor’s house and he lives
there with the housekeeper, Mrs. Macready, and three other servants.
4. Describe the house. It is a large house with lots of stairs, corridors, and rooms.
5. Explain Lucy’s unusual experience. She goes through the fur coats in the wardrobe and
ends up outside in the forest. It is nighttime and it’s snowing. She walks toward a lamppost
and meets a faun named Mr. Tumnus.
6. Based on Lucy’s experience, what do you suppose is the genre of this novel? Fantasy
7. What new character did Lucy meet at the end of the chapter? Mr. Tumnus who is a faun.
Chapter 2 – What Lucy Found There
1. Describe the setting of the novel. The story takes place during WWII in England. It takes
place in the professor’s house and the magical world of Narnia.
2. What is a faun? A faun is a man with a goat’s horns, ears, legs and tail.
3. Since the narrator can go into the minds of several characters, which is the point of view?

4. Summarize what happened at Mr. Tumnus’s house before Lucy went to sleep. Mr. Tumnus
served Lucy tea and lots of food. He played the flute and she fell asleep.
5. What motivated Mr. Tumnus to become friends with Lucy? Explain. He was working for
the White Witch. She told him that if ever he was to see a “Son of Adam or Daughter of Eve” in
the forest, he must capture and deliver them to her. Mr. Tumnus explains that he was just
pretending to be her friend so that he could lure her to his house, wait until she fell asleep,
then sneak out and tell the witch. Because he liked Lucy, he was motivated to become friends
with her and not turn her in to the White Witch.
6. Explain what you learned about the White Witch in this chapter. She is an evil queen that
makes it winter all of the time in Narnia, but never Christmas.
7. Since the reader is learning about the setting and characters during this chapter, which
part of plot is going on? Exposition
8. Lucy walked through a magical forest. Since the word “magical” describes the noun
