Information on child abuse

In general, abuse refers to acts of commission while
neglect refers to acts of omission. Some health
professionals and author consider neglect as a part of the
definition of abuse, while others do not, and this is
because the harm may have been unintentional or because
the caregivers did not understand the problem.
Delayed effects of child abuse and neglect especially
emotional neglect and the diversity of acts that qualify as
a child abuse are also factors.
Parents who physically abuses their spouses are more
likely than others to physically abuse their children. And
recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or
caretaker which results in death, serious physical or
emotional, harm, sexual abuse or exploitation or an act
which presents an imminent risk of serious harm.
Ordinary physical punishment by parents into confirmed
child abuse may be the punishing parents’ inability to
control their anger or judge their own strength, and the
parent being unaware of the child’s physical
vulnerabilities. Professionals argue that cultural norm that
sanction physical punishment are one of the causes of
child abuse and have undertaken campaigns to redefine
such norms.
A study on child on child abuse sought to determine the
forms of child abuse perpetrated on children with
disabilities the extent of child abuse.
Child Abuse has a lengthy history child have been subject
to abuse by their parents or other adult since, presumably,
the beginning of time. For many centuries’ laws failed to
protect children from abuse.
Children under English common law was considered the
property of their fathers, as women were considered
property of their husbands, until the late 1800s.
Child Abuse is widespread and can occur in any cultural,
ethnic or income group.
Physical Abuse involves non-accidental harming of a
child by, for example, burning, beating, or breaking
bones. Verbal Abuse involves harming a child by for
example, belittling them or threatening physical or sexual
acts. Emotional trauma can result from several forms of
abuse.
It is not always easy to recognize when a child has been
abused. Children who are abused are often afraid to
complain because they are fearful that they will be
blamed or that no one will have to believe them.
Additionally, the person who abused them may be
someone they love very much and want to protect. Parents
are often unable to recognizing symptoms of abuse
because they may not want to face this.
If its suspected that a child has been sexually abuse, the
child should be examined as soon as possible by a trained
health care professional. It is imperative that any abused
child be given immediate access to special support and
treatment; a doctor’s exam should not be delayed for any
reason.
Parents should watch for unexplained changes in a child’s
body or behavior. A formal examination should be
conducted only if a parent has reason to suspect their
child has been abused. Otherwise, the child may become
fearful.
Do not delay reporting suspicions of abuse. They may
develop marital and sexual difficulties depression or
suicidal behavior. With early intervention and treatment,
these outcomes may be avoided.
Statement of problem
Topic: Child Abuse

And to see what you can do to help prevent Child Abuse.
To see how you can assist persons who have been abuse
physically, mentally and socially.
Written report
This SBA started with our teacher explained the different
sections of the SBA. Once we fully understood this our
group members selected our topic ‘Child Abuse’.
The researchers then did individual research to get the
three pieces of evidence; Audio and Visual. We then
analyzed the pieces of data and made it suitable for
presentation.
The print informed us that professional inquired into
Child Abuse begun in 1960. In 1962 a paper entitled “The
Battered Child- Syndrome” written by pediatric C. Henry
Kempe and published in the journal of The American
Medical Association, helped to raise alarm and awareness
of child abuse. Child Abuse is described as the
sexual/psychological maltreatment or neglect of a child or
children especially by a parent or a caregiver. They
further went on to explain the types abuses, the effects of
most types were depression, self-guilty, flash backs, and
post traumatic stress. It also causes developmental
problems as the mistreated child may grow to be abusive
adults.
Four pictures were collected for the visual. There was an
image of a boy with an eye that is black and blue,
showing physical abuse. A girl covering her ears and
crying while her father beats her mother, showing
physiological abuse and physical abuse to the mother.
There was a picture of another boy with a swollen law
and eye, that also shows physiological and physical abuse
to both mother and daughter and sexual abuse to the
daughter.
The audio was a recording of one of the researchers
asking an employee of the Child Protection Agency, the
welfare department, about child abuse. Their definition
was similar to that of the print but they additionally said
that a child can be abused by a stranger too and not just
relatives persons should report any acts of child abuse so
that the child could be protected and actions would be
taken to ensure the well being of the child. They further
went on to tell us that they placed advertisement on the
most of social media to ensure that persons know that
child abuse is a serious offence and to make them more
vigilant.
From this investigation our writing, analyzing and reading
skills were improved. Our knowledge on child abuse was
widened which caused us to become more aware of
children and how they are treated.

Oral presentation
Who am I?
I am a dissociative survivor of abuse
You were the very close to me,
I loved you with my heart but
Deep down you are so violent,
And completely insane.

You took my childhood and stole the real me

You took who I was before I even knew the real me,
You unleashed your rage against me
As if turning a page,
Of your own history
And made it your story,

You just kept telling me,

Be a good girl
Be a good daddy’s little girl,
And enjoy your love,
A love that no man would give me
Feeling life-less,
Every day the pain you cost me,
Now everyone will know what happened to me.
