Limitations and Obligations

Contract:
A contract is an agreement which is usually written and most
commonly is used for employment and sales that is used as a legal
obligation to ensure both sides live up their agreement. In media a
contract is used for purchasing rights and hiring people. A contract
can protect an employee from getting their money stolen and
protect and employer from having to pay a worker who didn’t work.

Confidentiality:
Contracts also keep your personal information private so any
sensitive information you share with the company is not released to
any that the employee is unaware of. If this rule is broken it is within
the right of the employee to take legal action.

Confidentiality contracts are also used by employers to protect their

information from competitors, many companies use certain
strategies that help them get ahead in the industry and in order to
employ someone they may have to disclose this information. In
order to prevent this information ending up with an industry rival
they may require someone to sign a contract stating that if they
disclose this information with certain people, they will get charges
pressed.

A confidentiality contract can also be used to protect the storylines

of films and TV shows, preventing someone from working on set
from releasing plot details as it could have a negative impact on
release of the production and leave fans unhappy.
Codes of Practise:
A code of practise is a set of guidelines on how members of a
company are expected/allowed to act. This is to ensure that
employees of a company work in an ethical way and live up to the
ethical standards of the law and public although it is not legally
binding. Codes of Practise usually cover payment and control over
groups of employees to ensure companies have happy workers who
have a good relationship with the higher-ups to maximise morale
while also boosting profits.

Policies and Procedures:

Companies usually have many policies to ensure ethical and maintain
ethical practise in the business and public eye. It can serve the public
by ensuring its content and ads are appropriate for its audience and
if it has children viewers, a watershed policy should be put in place
to make sure children are protected from adult content. Another
example is employment ensuring all employment projects are fair
and balanced to make sure everyone gets the same opportunity to
prove their talent to others.

Emerging Social Concerns:

A company will usually have policies to help with social concerns
within its community for example making sure treatment of people
with disabilities is fair. They may do this by having a no tolerance
policy to make sure people won’t risk their career to treat a disabled
person unfairly. They could also influence their large following by
creating shows raising awareness for the issues.

Representation:
Most companies will try to represent all cultures in a fair light trying
not to offend any large groups of peoples or cultures, as it could
tarnish their reputation if they were accused of racism, sexism,
sectarianism ect.
