Research/Planning Report:

Our City has had a very conflicting, one that has taken a large
toll on the generation before. Although the fighting has
mostly stopped, the tensions between Catholic and
Protestant communities are still high, many people still have
a lot of hate for the other side.

As of 2011, the population of Derry Is 72.2% while the

Protestant population was less that 25.4%. Even though
Derry has a huge difference in these populations there are
still lots of tensions and the majority of each group live in
separate estates. Although its declining, crimes are often
committed by one side to another as parents are raising their
children to believe the other community is in the wrong.

From my research I can tell there is a lot of hatred from the

catholic community towards the police force due to the many
crimes committed against them when they are just doing
their job.

Project Report:
From the information I’ve gathered it is clear to see there is a
lot of hatred between both communities regardless of their
size comparison. I believe this is because there is a lack of
proper education on the matter. Many programmes are put
in place to try to educate people, but it is not fully effective
as it doesn’t allow both communities to mix meaning each
group of people don’t get first-hand experience with the
other side resulting on the wounds from the past only
partially healing. I believe that more integration between
schools is needed as I was a catholic who came from a mixed
area and attended an integrated primary school, I believe
that allowing both groups to mix especially from an early age
can create a great sense of compatibility between both sides.

researched and planned for. I set out my idea from the
beginning and presented it in my pitch
