NUEVA COLOMBIA SCHOOL ENGLISH CLASSES

ELEVENTH GRADE

PURPOSE: ​Read and identify different type of stories.


Students will be able to narrate stories using connectors of sequences and
different tenses.  

1. There are too many ways to tell a story. Literature use creativity with the
words. ​Match the meanings with the literary forms ​writing the
related letter on the line​ of the definition

a. Novel  ____A fictional narrative, usually short, 


which focuses on a specific character, 
action or emotion. 

b. Fable  ____A literary work that uses action and 


dialog and is performed on stage. 

c. Fairy Tale  ____Stories that often involve gods and 


goddesses and usually try to explain a 
phenomenon. 

d. Short Story  ____ A short narrative in prose or verse, 


often with animal characters, which 
illustrates a moral. 

e. Drama  ____ A long fictional narrative with a 


complex storyline and different 
characters.  

f. Poetry  ____ Simple tales for children involving 


fantastic elements and events 

g. Myth  ____A combination of words and rhythm 


with imagery and figurative language that 
transmits feelings.

Connectors ​ Stories express a sequence or events that 
happen over a period of time. You will find some examples 
here 
★ Once upon a time​: there was a time 
  ★ Once​: 1. Some time ago, at one time 2. at once:as soon 
as 
★ At this point​: at the moment 
★ Finally​: at the end 
★ As soon as​: immediately 
★ The next day​: the day after 
★ While​: when, at the same time 
★ First​: at the beginning 
★ Then​: later 
 
 
 

7. A fable is a Read and organize A short narrative in prose or verse, 


often with animal characters, which illustrates a moral.​ ​Read and organize 
the following fable. Pay special attention to the connectors and the verb 
tenses.

eggs to Farmer Brown and that she would get 
a lot of money.

back, the bucket fell off, and all the milk was 
gone, along with her dreams.
