SPECIFICATION FOR THE MASTER ANTENNA
TELEVISION (MATV) SYSTEM

1.0 Scope Of Work

The scope of work includes supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning and
handling over in approved working order of the complete MATV system as shown in the
accompanying drawings.

2.0 General Conditions

2.1 The contractor shall furnish and install all equipment, accessories and materials
necessary for a complete system in accordance with specifications and applicable
drawings.

2.2 The equipment furnished under this specification shall be the standard product of one
manufacturer.

2.3 All components and the system as a whole shall meet or exceed the minimum standards
and specifications approved by the JKR.

2.4 All wiring and termination's shall be done in a neat and workman like manner. This shall
include proper termination's of all junction points on terminal blocks that are properly
labelled as to source and destination. All wiring junctions will be in an appropriately
sized metal junction box. As built drawings shall be provided to the owner upon
completion of the project showing all wiring, termination's and junctions box locations.

2.5 All cable provided shall be of the kind as specified by the manufacturer for the system
supplied. Substitute cable of a larger or smaller size will not be acceptable.

2.6 The contractor shall be responsible for providing a complete functional system including
all necessary components, whether included in the specification or not.

3.0 System Requirements

3.1 The followings shall be included in the system:-

i) Channelised band antenna
ii) Lighting Arrestors
iii) Mixer
iv) Channelised band booster amplifier
v) Distribution coaxial cable
vi) Splitter units/Directional couplers/Tap off units
vii) vii) TV outlet units

1
3.2 The MATV system shall enable reception of television signal transmitted by TV1, TV2,
TV3 & TV4.

3.3 The system shall be continuously rated. It shall be designed for transmission of signals in
the VHF/UHF band.

3.4 All components used in the system shall be electrically and physically matched to
prevent discontinuities in the system. Input and output impedance of all components
used must be 75 ohms.

3.5 The required channel signals shall pass out of the system into the television receivers,
but interference cannot pass from the receiver back into the system. Adequately safety
precaution must be taken to ensure that if any set connected to the system goes
defective, it is not possible for dangerous voltages to get on to the system. This safety
must be built in at the T.V. outlet and the directional coupler and effective in the case of
accidental failures.

4.0 Antenna

4.1 The antenna shall have a minimum 8 dB gain and 12 dB front-to-back ratio.

4.2 The antenna must be constructed of material not susceptible to rusting or other form of
corrosion due to local weather condition.

4.3 The antenna shall be rigidly supported by 2" diameter G.I pipe, mounting brackets and
the pole must be painted with double coats of anti-rust paint, and at least one coat of
finishing paint.

4.4 The antenna must shall be bonded to the existing lightning protection system in
accordance with British Code of Practice C.P. 326.

4.5 Termination of coaxial cable at the antenna shall be sealed with water proof compound.

4.6 The MATV contractor shall propose a location on the roof where the signal level is
strongest for reception of the above transmission.

5.0 Mixer

The mixer shall have minimum of three (3) inputs. Each input shall have individual gain control up
to 12 dB without disturbance to other channels. The input and output impedance of the mixer
shall be 75 ohms.

2
6.0 Amplifier

6.1 The amplifier shall be channelised band and low noise type. Unless an automatic gain
controlling circuit is built-in a separate unit of `Automatic Gain Controller' must be
installed to stabilise the incoming signal to the amplifier.

6.2 The amplifier shall be fully tropicalised, solid state type and shall be designed for 24
hours operation.

6.3 The amplifier shall have a built-in lightning protection circuit and a built-in power supply
unit.

6.4 The minimum gain of the wide band amplifier shall be 25 dB and the minimum output
level shall be 100 dB/micro volt.

7.0 Splitter Units / Directional Couplers / Tap-Off Units

The splitter shall be housed in a properly screened casing to minimise any external interference.
The signal isolation between outputs terminals of these devices shall be better than 18 dB.

8.0 Metalclad Cabinet

The cabinet shall be wall mounted, adequately sized to house the wide band amplifier, mixer and
splitter unit. The cabinet shall be fabricated from 16 gauge sheet steel and finished with rust
resistant paint.

9.0 Distribution Cable

Distribution cables shall be radio frequency coaxial type having characteristic impedance of 75
ohms. The loss of signal strength due to the cable shall not exceed 10 dB per 100 meter length
over the frequency range specified. Proper plugs and sockets shall be used for cable
terminations.

10.0 Outlet Unit

Each T.V outlet shall be incorporated with a blocking capacitor rated at 2 kv to protect both
receiver and distribution system from dangerous voltages generated in the event of a fault.

The outlet shall be installed at 300 mm above the finished floor levels.

3
11.0 Working Drawings

The distribution network as shown in the MATV schematic drawing is indicative only. Within
three weeks after award of the Tender or such shorter period as may be required by the S.O.'s
Representative the successful MATV Contractor shall submit to the S.O.'s Representative for
his approval 4 sets of the following working drawings:-

i) Design calculations, method of analysis, detailed cabling plans showing calculated signal
level at each TV wall outlet and signal drop along each segment of the cabling.

ii) Full details and duplicate copies of the manufacturer's specification of all the equipments
offered.

The drawings submitted are to be modified if necessary as requested by the S.O.'s

Representative and resubmitted for final approval.

It is to be understood, however, that approval of the drawings will not exonerate the MATV
contractor from any responsibility in connection with the works.

12.0 Workmanship

The work shall be carried out in a proper and workmanlike manner and shall complete the
whole installation to the true intent of the specifications and drawings under the direction and to
the satisfaction of the S.O.'s. Any damage to finished building work shall be made good at the
expense of the MATV Contractor.

13.0 Testing And Commissioning

The MATV Contractor shall provide all equipments for the testing and commissioning of the
system. All type tests shall be conducted to the satisfaction of the S.O./Electrical Engineer.
Equipment shall be made available during the testing and commissioning stage to monitor and
demonstrate that the signal level at any T.V outlet is within the specified limits.

Four (4) copies of the test results shall be submitted to the S.O./Electrical Engineer.
