(Petrography Analysis)
INTRODUCTION:
This report incorporates petrographic study of rock samples. The rock samples were
Submitted by Arihant Drillings Pvt. Ltd., at the Aimil Testing Laboratory, New Delhi office dated 09-05-
2018.
A total numbers of 42 thin sections were prepared. Petrography of rock samples has been carried
out as per standard IS: 2386 (Pt-8)-1963 (Reaffirmed-1997) “Petrographic Examination”.
Thin sections of the given samples were examined megascopically as well as under polarizing
microscope with an aim to identify different mineral constituents, detrimental minerals, if any and
photo-micrographed for documentation. The microscopic examination also includes study of
micro-textures and alterations which have been observed between minerals grain boundaries.
The rocks description given hereunder solely pertains to megascopic study of the given sample
and microscopic study of two thin sections only of the same. It is suggested that given name of
the rock type by laboratory studies should preferably not be matched with text book description
of the rock or exactly with the field name because the names in the field are generally averaged
out based upon field observation on a larger area. These studies under the microscope do
provide an insight into the details of the rack samples which are difficult to be observed in the
field or recordable on a mappable scale. Herein the rocks have been named following the
customary subscript in case of intercalations of two or more rock types. For example quartzitic
phyllite connotes that the given sample has less of quartzite component and phyllite is the main
component of the rock sample under study.

Megascopic study of the sample (Study aid –naked eye & hand lens)
The given rock sample is greyish white in colour. It is fine to medium grain rock with medium specific gravity. The
rock is hard and compact. Identifiable minerals include quartz with some amount of weathered feldspar.

B. Textures and microstructure
It consists of detrital grains and matrix. Detrital grains include quartz, feldspar, mica and magnetite. Matrix includes
argillaceous/ arenaceous. Quartz grains are sub-angular to angular and vary in size within limited variation. Feldspar
is partially altered. Mica present as tiny shred. By and large the grain boundaries are sharp and argillaceous/
arenaceous matrix occupies irregular spaces between mineral grains. Magnetite is present as discrete grain.

Petrography of rock samples has been carried out as per standard IS: 2386 (Pt-8)-1963 (Reaffirmed-1997)-
“Petrographic Examination”.
Thin sections of the given samples were examined megascopically as well as under polarizing microscope with an aim
to identify different mineral constituents, detrimental minerals, if any and photo-micrographed for documentation.
The microscopic examination also includes study of micro-textures and alterations which have been observed between
minerals grain boundaries.
The rock description given hereunder solely pertains to megascopic and microscopic study of thin sectionof each
sample without any feedback of the field description and name from the sender. Keeping this in view, it is suggested
that given name of the rock type by laboratory studies should preferably not be matched with text book description of
the rocks. But it should be viewed in conjunction with alterations identified, if any, of the rock.It is pertinent to
mention here that veracity of representativeness of the sample of the field area rests with sender and petrographic
study undertaken and given hereunder includes characters recorded on the samples supplied.
Megascopic study of the sample (Study aid –naked eye & hand lens)
The given rock sample is light grey in colour. It is fine to medium grain rock with medium specific gravity. The rock is
hard and compact. Identifiable minerals include quartz with some amount of weathered feldspar.

Petrography Analysis
INTRODUCTION:
This report incorporates petrographic study of rock samples from Sevoke-Rangpo New BG Project. The rock samples were
submitted by Arihant Drillings Pvt. Ltd., at the ATL, New Delhi office dated 23/05/2018.
Petrography of rock samples has been carried out as per standard IS: 2386 (Pt-8)-1963 (Reaffirmed-1997)-“Petrographic
Examination”.
Thin sections of the given samples were examined megascopically as well as under polarizing microscope with an aim to
identify different mineral constituents, detrimental minerals, if any and photo-micrographed for documentation. The
microscopic examination also includes study of micro-textures and alterations which have been observed between
minerals grain boundaries.
The rock description given hereunder solely pertains to megascopic and microscopic study of thin section of each sample
without any feedback of the field description and name from the sender. Keeping this in view, it is suggested that given
name of the rock type by laboratory studies should preferably not be matched with text book description of the rocks. But
it should be viewed in conjunction with alterations identified, if any, of the rock. It is pertinent to mention here that
veracity of representativeness of the sample of the field area rests with sender and petrographic study undertaken and
given hereunder includes characters recorded on the samples supplied.

(Petrography Analysis)
INTRODUCTION:
This report incorporates petrographic study of rock samples. The rock samples were
Submitted by Arihant Drillings Pvt.Ltd., at the Aimil Testing Laboratory, New Delhi office dated 09-05-
2018.
A total number of 42 thin sections were prepared. Petrography of rock samples has been carried
out as per standard IS: 2386 (Pt-8)-1963 (Reaffirmed-1997)-“Petrographic Examination”.
Herein the rocks have been named following the
customary subscript in case of intercalations of two or more rock types . For example, Quartzitic
phyllite connotes that the given sample has less of quartzite component and phyllite is the main
component of the rock sample under study.

Megascopic Study of the Sample (Study aid –naked eye & hand lens):
It is a fine-grained rock, dark grey in colour, characterized by thin Phyllitic cleavage/foliation. The outer surface of the
specimen has a sheen which may be occupied by fine grained mica/ sericite. The rock has medium specific gravity. The
rock is so fine grained that no individual mineral grain is identified. Flaky mineral are inferred due to presence of
phyllitic cleavage/foliation.
Microscopic study of the sample (Study aids – Computer interfaced high resolution polarizing microscope with
photographic attachment)
*observations are recorded only on the grains which are relatively better developed.

B. Textures and Microstructures:
It is a fine to medium grained rock in which foliation is defined by preferred orientation of muscovite and chlorite
(Fig-2). At places quartz grains are stressed and occupy the parallelism with flaky minerals. Some quartz grains as
well as flakes of mica are lying oblique to foliation of the rock. Quartz rich portions have some of the grains of
quartz as secondary also and by and large the shape and size of the quartz grains varies. Grains of ferruginous
material are randomly oriented and localized.
Note: Generally Soil samples not found. if found, those Soil samples were not significant for lab test.
Lab test have been done on suitable samples only in rock.
