Course Code : EL2008

Title of the course : Signals and systems

1. Scope and Objective of the Course:

To develop comprehensive knowledge in the fundamentals of continuous and discrete

Signals and systems analysis, time and frequency representation of signals, and
computer implementation of basic signal processing routines.

In terms of technical content, the student, upon successful completion of the course,
Should be able to:
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of continuous and discrete signals
and systems, signal transforms, and input/output relationships in linear
time-invariant systems.
• Understand the concept of time and frequency domain (spectrum)
representation.
• Simulate signals and systems on a computer and perform simple
processing of real world signals such as audio or image signals.

The fundamentals and implementation of signals and systems are essential to
understanding the concept of using different transforms in time domain & frequency
domain for analog processing & digital signal processing and its implementation in
electronics, communications, embedded systems, computers, security and military
equipment.
It is therefore essential for students to understand the fundamentals, implementation and
application principles of signals and systems. This is so that they can use the most
appropriate and effective techniques to suit their technical need.
