Whether you are a parent of a Montessori student or
a perspective parent, these workshops will help you
to better understand the curriculum and philosophy.

Dates: Workshops are offered on


three consecutive Thursday nights
January 27th
February 3rd
February 10th
Time: 6:30 - A light meal will be offered
7:00 - 8:00pm Workshops held
Cost: $25.00 per family. Use registration form below
to sign up. Be sure to mark your selections on
the back of this flyer. Don’t forget to mark your
calendars!

Return your registration form and payment to the office by Tuesday, January
25th. Childcare is provided at no additional cost. If you need more copies of
the registration forms you may pick them up at the office or email Sharon at
office@wmpcs.org.

______Sensorial Workshop: Make your own visual discrimination sequence cards -Come out and work
through the eyes of a child. Presenters: Jane Hardee (3-6), Quinteria Hill (3-6)

______The Montessori Approach to Reading at the 6-9 Level - Find out what materials and
practices are being used to not only teach students to read but also to develop higher order thinking
skills and the ability to discuss literature in a meaningful and thoughtful way. Presenters: Nancy Murray
(6-9), Christa Farmer (6-9), Christy Boudreaux (6-9)

______More Talk in Montessori – The role of Socratic Dialogue at the secondary level. A short reading will be a
required prerequisite for this workshop. Pick up copies in the office. Presenters: Patrick Velde (12-
15), Patty Taddio (12-15)

______Community Services For Exceptional Children K-8 – Find out what community based services are
available in NC to meet the needs of children with challenging disabilities. Community
Alternative Program for Persons with Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities
Presenter: Gary Bass, Regional Director, Pride in NC Inc.

Thursday, February 3, 2010. Choose one of the following.

______Linking Writing with Cultural Studies in the Upper Elementary Classroom - Learn how cultural studies
are used as a springboard to engage students in the writing process. Presenter: Darla Prescott

______Sensorial Workshop – Make your own inset work- Also, bring home the stencils needed to make
your own sandpaper letters for use at home! Presenters: Sara Moore (3-6), Jo Dee Anderson (3-6

______Encore – Art – Why we paint. Presenter: Nancy Scoble

______Nurturing Independence at Home and in the Classroom – What can we expect from our children and
how does a child’s will, attention, intellect and imagination play into these expectations? Presenters:
Angi Bosso (9-12), Cortni Lilley (9-12), and Darla Prescott (9-12)

______Montessori Math at the 6-9 Grade Level-Sit back and be amazed at the progression of math
concepts that are being introduced at early ages with specially designed materials and how they build
understanding of abstract ideas. You will find yourself wishing you yourself had been taught this way.

______Montessori Math Workshop – Make your own materials for helping your child understand those tricky
