FINDING THE RIGHT PITCH

From the crude humor to the cast itself, Elizabeth Banks seems to have hit another
bullseye with this one.

E lizabeth Bank’s Pitch Perfect could

most certainly pass off as a sequel to
Mean Girls (and it would be better
than the original’s done to death
storyline). The best thing about the
movie is probably how the entire cast
seems to have fun in the role- and
their energy is infectious. You can’t
help but guffaw every now and then
at the silly jokes embedded
throughout the brilliantly concocted
script.

Anna Kendrick, as Beca, has much

room to flesh out her character and
even though she appears a bit hostile
as first, you can quickly find yourself
sinking deep into liking her
character. The plot thickens proportionately, the narrative running to and
fro between the lives of the eight college girls, desperately trying to battle
all odds and pursue a career they’ve always wanted.

One of the reasons why the movie garnered such a substantial viewership
was probably because it tackles the sensitive theme of misogyny in quite a
lighthearted and jovial manner. It also seems to take on the prickly subject
of fat shaming and seems to promote body positivity with Rebel Wilson
playing Fat Amy-one of the most eminent characters of the film-who has us
laughing until our stomachs hurt.

The movie is precisely engineered to hook millenials and young adults
with its energetic ensemble cast, but it could be fun for almost all the
family, depending on your adult cohorts’ response to the occasional crude
humor. The pace is (just about) fast enough to keep younger viewers
hooked, and some of the songs sung by the girls in a few scenes may blast a
few of us down a vortex of nostalgia, but that’s what makes this movie so
special.

Pitch Perfect is, infact, quite a vociferous ode to the cutthroat world of a
capella competition and it has definitely hit many high notes along the
way. Banks’ heavy handedness is quite apparent in everything from the
songs to the riveting and comical nature of the plot and the belligerent tone
of his actors’ performances. Pitch Perfect is fun and guffaw-worthy in parts.
One finds ample opportunities to laugh in the film, sometimes even during
scenes of intense drama and action.

Pitch perfect is a grade A, musically inclined emulation of chick flicks that’s

entirely fuelled by its gratuitous humor and exuberant cast. One could also
say that the movie is pitch perfect in every aspect of its making!
