Propósitos
● Ser competentes en el uso de la lengua inglesa, en sus cuatro macro
habilidades (escuchar, hablar, leer y escribir).
● Comprender y producir diferentes textos orales y escritos referidos al
campo del turismo.
● Reconocer marcas textuales en la oralidad y la escritura.
● Leer e inferir reglas gramaticales a partir de textos.
● Simular y contextualizar distintas funciones de la lengua referidas a
situaciones reales en el área de turismo.
● Aplicar distintas estrategias de lectura y escucha para la descodificación de
la información de la bibliografía utilizada.
● Analizar videos turísticos relacionados con el circuito pedestre y el city
tour de la provincia de Salta.
● Intercambiar ideas y aprender de las experiencias de otras personas.
Contenidos
Unit 1: JOBS IN THE TOURISM FIELD – AT A TRAVEL AGENCY
Functions: Talking about daily life. Talking about people’s jobs, responsibilities
and qualities. Dealing with money.
Language focus: Adverbs of frequency. Present Simple: affirmative, negative and
interrogative. Present Continuous Tense. Contrasting the present time.
Vocabulary: The restaurant. Hotel jobs. Daily duties. Nationalities. Adjectives
that describe qualities. Car hire.
Reading and Listening: Simple texts about people’s lifestyles.
Professional practice: Oral presentation: “Describe a hotel or a restaurant”. A
simulation in a travel agency. “Prepare a report about Salta taking into account
the most important attractions”. Role playing: Selling a holiday. Dealing with a
telephone enquiry. Hiring a car.
Unit 2: IN A RESTAURANT
Functions: Explaining drinks, menus and dishes. Complaining about food,
drinks, etc. Taking reservations and orders. Making bookings. Explaining a
process. Describing a traditional dish or drink.
Language focus: Countable and Uncountable nouns. Some any. Much, many, a
lot. Verbs that describe methods of cooking. Present passive.
Vocabulary: Types of food. Adjectives that describe food (those related to
taste).Starters, main courses and desserts. Can I have a table for ….? Do you have
a reservation? ; Would you like a drink while you are drinking? It is a kind of…; It
is a bit like…; It tastes…
Reading and Listening: Menus. Dialogues.
Professional practice: simulation of a restaurant applying every function learned
in this unit.
Unit 3: TOURS
Functions: Asking about and describing locations of places. Asking for and giving
directions. Giving instructions. Reading maps and locating places. Giving tourist
information. Giving tour guide commentaries. Planning tour itineraries.
Language focus: Question words. Past Simple. Past passive.
Vocabulary: Nouns related to different places within a town: travel agency,
museum, cafe, bus station, airport, etc. Prepositions of places. Useful phrases to
ask for and give directions.
Reading and Listening: Different texts and tapes in which people ask the way and
give tour guide commentaries.
Professional practice: In pairs: collecting information about an attraction in the
city centre and preparing a written report about it using the phrases learned in
this unit.

Orientaciones didácticas
La metodología está limitada por la cantidad excesiva de alumnos en el primer año de la
carrera y por lo tanto esta cátedra busca el uso de las metodologías más adecuadas para
el trabajo con grupos numerosos.
Al comienzo del ciclo se trabaja facilitando las estrategias convenientes para que los
alumnos puedan lograr autonomía en el estudio mostrando el uso de diccionarios, CD´s
y páginas web que incrementarían el aprendizaje y práctica del léxico específico
relacionado con el Turismo.
Se trabaja de manera tal que los alumnos cuenten con el mayor tiempo para hablar,
limitando la intervención del docente lo más posible y concentrando la misma en la
explicación de temas que creen dificultad o que por su naturaleza sean los que con mayor
frecuencia causan fracasos.
Hacia mediados de año, una vez que los alumnos adquieren autonomía en el aprendizaje,
se les da mayor libertad tanto en la interacción como en el trabajo en casa. El uso de los
diccionarios, páginas web y las lecturas del libro de texto, que en un principio eran
guiadas las realizan con muy poca intervención del docente y en lo posible en casa. Una
vez adquiridas las estrategias y elegida la que cada alumno considere que facilita su
aprendizaje, los alumnos buscan e investigan por su cuenta y traen a clase trabajos
elaborados por ellos en su casa, o relatan textos que leen solos.

Evaluación
Trabajos Prácticos.
Los estudiantes presentarán trabajos prácticos asignados por la profesora por
escrito o en forma oral. Aproximadamente se realizarán diez prácticos en el año.
Generalmente las simulaciones equivalen a dos o tres prácticos.
Exámenes parciales
Habrá dos exámenes parciales y sus correspondientes recuperatorios. El guiado
del “pedestre” y del “City tour” equivale a uno de los parciales. Es por ello que el
seguro es obligatorio. Existirán tres tipos de alumnos: eximidos, regulares y
libres.
Requisitos para lograr la eximición: los alumnos eximidos (no rendirán examen
escrito)
● Deberán asistir el 80% de las clases desarrolladas durante el año.
● Tendrán que aprobar el 70% de los prácticos.
● Aprobarán sus dos exámenes parciales con siete o más (no en sus
recuperatorios)
Accreditation: A passing mark will allow students to sit for the written exam.
