Please remember to update your schedule and check if there are any errors.

6
2.3. Assessment
On your first class, you should get to know the student personally. Try to familiarize
yourself with the personality traits of the student so as to establish a good rapport
with him/her. You may start with introducing yourself in detail, and once the student
is comfortable with you, you may then proceed with the academic assessment.

2.3.1. Objective

The main objective of performing a student assessment is to convince the parents

of the student that you are a good educator. It will help you to portray your
understanding on the academic needs of their child. Apart from that, the
assessment will also help you in getting a grasp on the student’s current academic
level.

2.3.2. Student Evaluation Form

The student evaluation form is a guide for you to assess the student’s current
academic level. There are four parts in the evaluation form:

2.3.2.1. Part I: Knowledge

In part 1, you will evaluate the student’s knowledge on the subject. You should
pick several questions according to the student’s academic level. In the example
below, the student is currently in Form 2 and the subject being evaluated is Sains.
The student was tested on the following topics verbally:

7
1) Keadaan jirim

a. Apakah itu jirim?

b. Namakan tiga keadaan jirim?

c. Apakah ciri-ciri pepejal, cecair, gas?

2) Unsur sebatian dan campuran

a. Apakah maksud unsur, sebatian dan campuran?

b. Apakah maksud atom?

c. Apakah maksud molekul?

3) Pembakaran

a. Berikan tiga keadaan yang diperlukan untuk pembakaran

b. Apakah hasil pembakaran bahan api karbon

c. Apakah hasil pembakaran bahan api hidrokarbon

4) Fotosintesis

b. Apakah hasil yang diperoleh daripada fotosintesis?

5) Kelas haiwan dan tumbuhan

b. Apakah itu haiwan vetabrata

c. Apakah lima kelas vertebrata?

8
Figure 2.3.2.1: Part I example

The questions listed on page 4 were asked to the student verbally (casual
conversation). The student could not answer most of the questions immediately; most
likely due to shyness and lack of confidence. However, after giving him some time to
think and calm himself down, he managed to answer most of the questions correctly.
Please remember that it is very important to put the student at ease as some students
find it difficult to communicate with strangers. Give them some time for this adjustment
and allow the students to commit some form of error in Part 1.

9
2.3.2.2. Part II: Understanding

In Part II, you will test the student’s understanding on the concepts/ideas
tested in Part I; by using verbal or written questions, or possibly both. The
designed questions for this part should only require basic thinking and
understanding. Allow some form of error to take place in Part II.

In the example below, follow-up questions based on Part I were asked to the
student.

1) Keadaan jirim

a. Apakah perbezaan pepejal, cecair dan gas?

b. Apakah contoh jirim?

c. Apakah contoh bukan jirim?

2) Unsur sebatian dan campuran [omitted because student couldn’t answer

part I questions on the topic]

3) Pembakaran

a. Terangkan segi tiga api

b. Berikan contoh bahan api karbon

c. Berikan contoh bahan api hidrokarbon

4) Fotosintesis

Updating and maintaining your class schedule

After you have completed or postponed a class, please update your schedule
in Google Sheets. Refer to section 2.2.1 on how to maintain your schedule. If
there is any postponement, quickly schedule a replacement class as each
class is paid beforehand by the parents.

You are also required to schedule your classes for the following month before

3) Maintain good rapport with the parents

It is always a good practice to maintain a good rapport with the parents. It will
be easier for you to schedule classes or deal with them in general if they are
comfortable with you. Be courteous and respectful with the parents as you are
entering their house as a guest.

4) Commitments

All tutors are required to commit at least 6 months for every job given. A one-
month notice is required if tutors cannot continue any class anymore.
Termination will be considered if there is no cooperation from the tutors.

Before any payment is being released to you every month, kindly ensure 3
things below are being completed, updated and submitted to Sifu Tutor’s
Management:

a) Current month’s schedule

b) Next month’s schedule
c) Attendance sheet of current month
