Economy

r solution lies in first understanding the very culture and environment of an economy and then
build the desired ‘change’ around the very underlying realities that otherwise are largely
unalterable. It is obvious that PTI failed to comprehend this and although at places well
intentioned, it simply rushed into bringing about a change that simply went against the ethos
and the operational dynamics of the Pakistani economy.

Police reforms

Their(officers) recruitment process(CSS) is not efficient because the people

who join it are not mentally prepared for it and their education is not
pertinent to police -95% of the time.

The police need to recruit officers at the young age of 18-22 and have them
undergo rigorous training on the pattern of the army. For specialised fields, eg
investigative units for white-collar crime, there can be lateral recruitment, just
like the army recruits doctors, engineers and educationists.

In a nutshell: our police will continue beating suspects to death if we keep

beating about the bush by delaying genuine police reforms.

Climate related

our key issues on which the world needs to focus as part of building the adaptive resilience of society in a rapidly changing world.

Urgency: We need to step up action and act fast and act now. Delay is no longer an option.

Protection of species: We need to protect species and all life systems and should think about conducting a human impact
assessment study, something along the lines of an environmental impact assessment for development actions to ensure that all
species have an equal chance and enabling environment for survival.

Social values: Practise and promote values that shine the light on human goodness and the greater benefits of sharing and caring
over mindless materialism.

Governance and quality of leadership: Make governance more inclusive and participatory. Politics, politicians and policies will
determine the future quality of life on Planet Earth. Policies and approaches that are not only about social and economic indicators
but linked to survival must be co-created and have collective ownership from stakeholders.

Kashmir

. For bilateral negotiations to reach an amicable settlement the two

parties to the dispute need to enter talks prepared for trade-offs on the
principle of give and take.

Judiciary system
. The Punjab Model of Governance pioneered by bureaucrat Zubair Bhatti in Jhang functions on
a simple model whereby citizens who visit a government office for anything register their phone
numbers and get a call later to determine if they were asked for extra payment and if they are
satisfied with the services provided at the office. Perhaps a similar exercise for police stations
will go far in improving their functioning.

. Using technology for the attendance record of public prosecutors will go a long way, as the
absence of state prosecutors in cases that are cognisable and non-compoundable which requires
the state to be a party causes delays.

setting up of independent forensic laboratories for investigation of data is also very important,
as the current high volume dealt by a just a handful of forensic labs causes unnecessary delays in
the dispensation of justice.

e introduction of e-courts by the Supreme Court of Pakistan where cases can be heard via video
link is a welcome addition to the current setup where complainants and witnesses have to bear
the cost of travel and stay for hearings,

a data protection and privacy law so that all the data and information processed in the courts,
investigation agencies, police, companies, and applications is protected and not misused.
