Entuity 15.

5 New Features
Entuity 15.5 adds several new features that boost automation and give customers even greater flexibility in
customizing their network monitoring to support their business objectives.

 Offers flexibility in extending the custom methods used to obtain

information from proprietary SNMP MIBs on different makes/models of
devices that may not yet be available out-of-the box. Particularly useful for
monitoring fans, power supplies and memory pools.
 Provides a standard way to add extra statistical gathering to the wide range
of standard metrics that Entuity already polls. For example, this feature
could be used to add compression efficiency monitoring for a WAN data
compression device.
 Allows modeling of entirely new aspects of network device monitoring that
extend beyond the many dimensions of concept modelling already in the
product. Useful, for example, for allowing multicast groups to be uniquely
discovered and monitored where devices are configured for multicast
operation.
 Enables new attributes to be defined along with their SNMP polling details
without interruptions to other management activity—no maintenance
windows required.
 Allows user defined attributes to be used as both object and time-series
stream attributes.
 Outside professional services assistance not required—entirely web UI based
and user driven.
User Defined Polling
 All polled data is visible through the Entuity web UI and available for
reporting and event/incident generation.
 Polling intervals can be defined when creating new attributes or afterwards.
 Provides three ways to customize polling:
o Create User Defined Objects. Ships with several out of the box, user-
customizable, predefined object types, including key and name
attributes. Also allows for the addition of user-defined attributes
onto these objects. This allows users to create new object types to
represent table based concepts. For example a new object may be
built to represent a multicast group and to discover all such groups
from a suitable SNMP MIB table on a managed device.
o Add New Collectors. Allows users to define new collectors for
existing object and time-series stream attributes (the latter of which
allows data to be gathered on a periodic basis and a history of
samples to be stored). A MIB browser is included to allow standard
and proprietary MIBs to be imported into Entuity and easily
searched for the required MIB objects, for which custom collectors
can be built if a collector does not already exist. The addition of
sophisticated logic within the collectors can also be accommodated.
o Add Attributes to Existing Objects. Provides an optional wizard for
creating new attributes and custom collectors for existing objects.
Customers can also use the wizard to create custom thresholds for
raising events and incidents for these user-defined attributes.

 Adds a modern API approach to performing administrative tasks either for a

single server or across multi-server environments. Supported operations
include device listing and renaming, creating and modifying views and their
contents, and adding new devices to be managed. No command line access to
Entuity servers is needed.
 Enables customers to automate and easily link their workflow systems with
RESTful API their network monitoring system.
 Enables central automation and control of the monitoring configuration.
Operations can be performed by making a web connection to a central Entuity
server.
 Useful for enterprises, especially larger ones and MSPs, who want to
automate regular maintenance tasks in the NOC, such as taking a new
customer and their devices under management.

EMS Project Merge:

 Enables the automatic merging of the base EMS Configuration Project
included in new Entuity releases with existing user-customized EMS projects
so that new functionality is added during upgrade.
 Allows for the comparison of projects created in prior releases with the new
base project to easily identify differences and to choose the new capabilities
to be implemented. Can also be used to compare different versions of
archived projects to identify changes between versions.
 Reduces risks of manual errors during upgrades.
Enhanced Send SNMP Trap Action:
Event Management System  Allows incident/event integration directly from the EMS to third-party
Enhancements products such as Dell Foglight.
 Configured via the web UI. Integrated as part of the EMS system.
 Allows forwarding of events and incidents so that third-party products
receiving the traps can benefit from the full power of the EMS rules and
consolidation system.
 Allows information sent in the SNMP trap to be customized via the web UI.
 Inclusion of call-back URL allows the Entuity UI to be cross launched from
third-party products in the context of the same component that raised the
event or incident.

Amazon Web Services support:
 Adds “public cloud” management to a previously “private cloud,” or on-
premises, infrastructure management only product.
 Discovers AWS virtual computing platform and represents it in the Entuity UI
alongside on-premises equipment.
 Supports AWS Zones (hypervisors), Instances (VMs), Volumes, Regions,
Reservations, Security Groups, VPCs, Route Tables.
 VM monitoring can still be achieved via Managed Host monitoring.
Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) support:
Technology Enhancements  Enables Cisco UCS components to be discovered and monitored in realtime
through one point of entry: the UCS project manager.
 Discovers Chassis, Fabric Extenders, Rack Units, Switches, Service Profiles, and
more, with ability to drill down into components (e.g., fan modules, blades,
PSUs, etc).
 Supports UCS Manager 1.4 onwards running on 6100/6200 series fabric
interconnects.
 Supports UCS B-series & C-series.
 All information represented in the Entuity UI and can be represented in
reports, dashboards, and so on.

Entuity Views:
 Eases administration and set up of Views by merging Access Control List (ACL)
functionality with Views.
 Allows administrators to permission groups of users to create Views.
 Simplifies user access to Views: any user with permission to access a view
sees the same contents.
 Adds base Views to allow the contents of one view to be derived from one or
more other views combined.
Administrative Enhancements  New All Servers icon in web UI makes navigation easier.
 Adds View Migration report to assist with upgrades from previous Entuity
versions. The report can be installed on the customer’s existing release and
will audit all of the ACLs and Views already configured to identify changes
required before the upgrade to 15.5
Create Service Permission:
 Allows administrators to permission the creation of Services at the group
level. Administrators can nominate groups of users who will be allowed to
create their own Services.

 Adds two new Threshold reports to help administrators maintain visibility and
documentation into which settings have been changed and what the default
values are.
Reporting Enhancements  Default Server Threshold Settings: Allows all system level threshold defaults
and view level device reachability threshold overrides to be catalogued.
 Custom Threshold Settings: Lists all user applied threshold overrides for
devices in a selected view.
