Switching System
The Cajun P100 Switching System
is designed to cost-effectively meet
the networking needs for medium-
sized enterprise networks as well
as the closet requirements for large
enterprises. With more than 10
models, the Cajun P100 System
provides solutions ranging from
high-density desktop switching to
mid-sized network centers.
The Cajun P100’s unique Exoplane ™
technology enables up to 4 switch
units to be stacked, connected
together by an external 4 Gbps
backplane link, and all managed
as a single logical switch. As a
high-density desktop switch, the
Cajun P100 offers unparalleled
flexibility by providing the broadest
selection of interfaces in the industry:

(up to 96 in a stack)

(up to 56 in a stack)

High-speed uplinks provide 100 Mbps

Cajun P220
Gigabit Switches
The Cajun P220G and P220FE are
smaller versions (just 2 RU at 3.5”) of
the award-winning Cajun P550
Gigabit Switch, offering the same full-
featured Layer 2 network capabilities.
Designed for non-blocking perfor-
mance in either 8 x 1Gb/s or 24 x
10/100 with 2 x 1Gb/s uplinks, the
Cajun P220 is the ideal switch for
server farms, smaller gigabit back-
bones, the highest performance
workgroups, or “top of stack” applica-
tions in the wiring closet.
The Cajun P220 Gigabit Switch family
includes the Cajun P220G (31.68Gb/s)
with up to 8 x 1Gb/s ports; and the
Cajun P220FE (17.68Gb/s) with 24 x
10/100 and up to 2 x 1Gb/s. Each has
one option module slot that supports
1 x Gbps, 2 x 100FX, or 4 x
10/100TX. Full VLAN features,
OpenTrunk link aggregation, and IEEE
802.1Q and OpenTrunk VLAN tagging
(for interoperability with your legacy
3COM and Cisco networking
equipment) are featured on all
ports. The Cajun P220 also supports
active congestion control that is
fully interoperable with the rest
of Lucent Technologies Cajun
Campus Solutions.
Cajun M400
Gate Switch
The Cajun M400 is a modular multi-
function switch designed to bring the
benefits of high-speed multilayer
switching to legacy networks.
Available in three chassis sizes
ranging from 5 to 18 slots, the Cajun
M400 integrates support for Gigabit
Ethernet, ATM, FDDI, Synchronous
Ethernet, legacy Ethernet interfaces,
and multilayer switching into a single
platform that provides extensive fault
tolerance and redundancy features.
In combination with Lucent Tech-
nologies Cajun A500, P550 and M770
Switches, the Cajun M400 is the ideal
solution for migrating routed or
legacy switched networks to next
generation Gigabit Ethernet and
ATM technologies. The Cajun M400
architecture, however, ensures that
legacy users continue to benefit from
new network applications. Featuring
a patented active congestion control
scheme and a fully distributed switch
design, the Cajun M400 provides
award-winning switching throughput
and class-leading latency/jitter
performance that enable the intro-
duction of voice/video applications
over both high-speed and legacy
networks. In addition, full 802.1p/Q
compliance on Gigabit Ethernet
uplinks ensures full end-to-end
QoS and VLAN capabilities.
The Cajun M400 has available a
hardware-based IP/IPX routing
module that combines over 1Mpps
forwarding speed with full support
for RIP and OSPF, enabling compati-
bility with existing routed networks
while providing high-speed routing
performance over existing Ethernet
and FDDI backbones. And of course,
full-featured management and Lucent
Technologies unique SMON
technology are also available.
Cajun A500
ATM Switch
Lucent Technologies Cajun A500
Switch is designed to carry multiple
applications’ traffic in a scalable ATM
backbone. Optimized for integration
with Lucent Technologies DEFINITY®
ATM Enterprise Communications
Server, the Cajun A500 is a 10 Gbps
mid-sized ATM Switch that supports
up to 32 x OC-3c, 8 x OC-12c and
12 x DS-3 interfaces. To support
the convergence of voice, video
and data of multimedia applications,
the Cajun A500 Switch incorporates
advanced Bell Labs traffic manage-
ment algorithms (CAC, EPD,
and PPD) and also provides
end-to-end clock synchronization
designed specifically for integrating
voice over ATM. Additionally,
with flexible buffering, industry
standard ATM signaling, and traffic
prioritization, the Cajun A500 Switch
can handle up to 25% more switched
voice and data traffic than other
competitive solutions.

Routing Switch
Lucent Technologies premier Gigabit
Ethernet Switch, the Cajun P550
features a 45.76 Gbps switch fabric
designed for wire-speed, campus-
wide backbones and high-density/
high-performance closets. The Cajun
P550 Switch provides up to 33 Mpps
of Layer 2 switching capacity (24 x 1
Gbps ports) or up to 18 Mpps of
Layer 3 IP and IPX routing capacity
(12 x 1 Gbps), all in a compact 10.5
inch (6 RU) chassis. Twelve different
I/O modules and two different super-
visors (Layer 2 and Layer 3) support
up to 120 x 10/100 (L2), 72 x 10/100
(L3), 24 x 1 Gb/s (L2), and 12 x 1
Gb/s (L3) Ethernet interfaces. OC-3
and OC-12 ATM uplinks are part of
the plan as well.
The Cajun P550 Switch brings SAFER
networking to Ethernet via its exten-
sive fault tolerance in both its chassis
and switch fabric. Fault tolerant N+1
power, hot-standby switch fabric,
redundant supervisors, hot swap
everything, OpenTrunk link aggrega-
tion, and flexible routing and
switching protocols all combine to
build extremely resilient networks
with the most resilient switches.
The Cajun P550 Routing Switch
comes with full featured IP and IPX
routing with RIP I, RIP II, and OSPF,
as well as multicast with IGMP and
DVMRP, and standards-based QoS.
The Cajun P550 Routing Switch
features wire-speed filtering and
prioritization complete through Layer
4 protocol criteria such as application
port numbers. Both the Cajun P550
Routing Switch and Cajun P550
Gigabit Switch provide the same
award-winning full-featured VLAN
capabilities, OpenTrunk link aggrega-
tion, and IEEE 802.1Q and OpenTrunk
VLAN tagging (for interoperability
with your legacy 3COM and Cisco
networking equipment) on all ports.
The Cajun P550 also supports active
congestion control that is fully inter-
operable with all of the products
within the Cajun Campus Solutions.
VLANs with LANE 1.0 and 2.0 will be
supported on ATM uplinks. In addi-
tion, an aggressive ongoing software
release program insures investment
protection with enhancements to
policy management, multicasting
(MOSPF and PIM), RSVP, SMON,
switch-to-switch fault tolerance, and
industry standard initiatives (IETF
and IEEE) being actively developed.
Cajun M770
Multifunction Switch
The enterprise-class Cajun M770 is a
robust multifunction switch designed
specifically to provide the reliability
required for the convergence of
voice, data and video into a common
infrastructure. Featuring a unique
SAFER architecture that distributes
critical switching, management, and
processing functions, the Cajun M770
Switch is inherently resistant to
failure and extremely fault tolerant.
For extreme mission-critical environ-
ments, the Cajun M770 Switch can be
optionally configured for Domain
Switching, which provides a 1:1
redundant network backbone with
standby connections for every
network link. Domain switching
combines the redundancy provided
by multiple switches with the space
efficiency, lower cost, and simplified
management of a single switch.
A true multi-function platform,
the Cajun M770 Switch can simulta-
neously support both Ethernet and
ATM switch modules anywhere in
the chassis, with full SMON support.
As a backbone ATM switch, the Cajun
M770 is Lucent Technologies premier
Campus ATM offering, combining
capacity for up to 210 x OC-3c ports,
70 x OC-3c ports, or 14 x OC-48
ports, with unique scaleable and
redundant LANE (and MPOA in
future) services. The M770 Switch
also supports clock synchronization
with Lucent Technologies DEFINITY
ATM Enterprise Communications
Server to provide a high-availability
infrastructure supporting both voice
and data over ATM applications.
As an Ethernet switch, the Cajun
M770 provides up to 120 x 10/100 or
