Wave with no boundaries =frequency

2. Wave with boundaries = this wave will reflect and overlap to the wave (STANDING WAVE)
3. When standing waves happen they become wavelength
4. this string will wiggle and is put pressure. This wave is going to travel to the right and meet the
boundary. It will flip over and travel back.
5. Strings and create of series of pulses this pulses and travel to the right and meet boundaries. It
will flip over and travel back. And create destructive or constructive when it meets the second
pulse. So at the end, all the waves will be reflected. And when they meet there will be no
motion. Maximum Displacement
6. Superposition is done. It is going to be a mess.
7. Strings with nodes at both ends. What wavelength that is possible to have nodes at each ends

8. Not a complete wave.

9. Complete wave (HARMONIC WAVE).

10. 2nd harmonic

11. 3rd harmonic

Areas with maximum displacement. If it has, …

12. Nothing happens here (they are in desctructive because they are cancelling each other out)

13. Nodes (no motion portion)

14. Anti-nodes (complete antonym of the nodes)

15. The nodes are positioned on the standing wave (fixed …overtime) that is desctructive
interference
16. Anti- nodes position on a standing wave with maximum pressure. (maximum interference)
17. How to determine the quantities in a mathematical way???

Fundamental wavelength
=

 Need to be extended to have a complete wave. (complete fundamental wavelength)

18. Second harmonic length = 10 m

19. Third harmonic =

20. Formula in determining the wavelength

SOUND POWER
- Sound is emitted on an object.
- Measured in watts
- Ex. aircon that has 1 unit of horse power = 746 watts which means it generates to be able to
produce a cool air.
- Property of the source of sound. Independent to the location .Kahit nasan ka, nandun pa din.
- Level is dependent on the location and distance.
- Sound pressure measured in pascal

Sound intensity = watts/sqm. (power/areaa)

Sound pressure = scaler quantity (magnitude)

Decibels = logarithmic ratio between 2 number , a measured quantity and referenced number.

Threshold of hearing

To become decibel you need to multiply it by 10.

Ex. Classroom = the sound intensity when no one’s speaking is approx.

1. Find the ratio

2. Find the logarithmic ratio

3. Reversed, finding the sound intensity expressed in watts/sqm.

TOH is reference for sound intensity which is 10 to the -12 watts/sqm.

Inverse square Law

Sound power = 0.02 N (property of the source of sound)

The Misleading Visuals on the Geopolitics Accelerating Raw Materials Scarcity Data

1. A misleading visual posted on March 8, 2010 entitled Visual Content: Visual Turfte

"http://incisive.nu/2010/beyond-tufte/ ". This infographic is on a magazine No.2605 of
May 2007 created by the New Scientist. The data presents the impact of world
consumption and US on the availability of natural resources.

2. The intended audience is generally the public since we all consume natural

resources. We are responsible for it. However, as we look at the graph, we may
observe that it focused more on the US consumption data. It seems like it was made
mainly for the Americans.

1. After analyzing the data, I have detected three misleading characteristics including
hiding relevant data, displaying too much data to obscure reality, and distorting data
through visual forms.

2. First, the author had hidden the data about the World consumption rate that is relevant
for the data. In addition, the data had presented too much data visuals that confuses the
decoders. Lastly, the data was distorted by using different scale in the y-axis.

3. First, the World consumption rate data is used for the computation in determining the
number of years for the remaining natural resources that are shown in the middle portion
of the data. This misleads the decoders assuming that the World Consumption is lesser
than US Consumption. Lastly, presenting a bar graph of the World consumption, the
same with one on the left, the audience could easily comprehend and differentiate these
consumptions. This exemplifies the component which is hiding relevant data.

Second, I obviously notice an information overload at first glance. It presented not one
but five data visuals that may bewilder the decoders in terms of the relationships or
connectivity of those five visuals. For example, the relation between graph 3 (in the
middle) and graph 4 (on the upper right) cannot be identified. Lastly, the relation
between graph 3 (circle graph in the middle) and graph 3 (on the upper right) cannot be
identified. Where did graph 2 below originate from? Because the element
"Hafnium" in graph 2 did not reflect on graph 3. This exemplifies the component which is
displaying too much data to obscure reality.

Finally, the distorted y-axis in graph 1 (on the right) is noticeable. The author used
different scale. Though, it is understandable that it was mainly used for having a large
discrepancy. The scale of the graph 3 (circle graph in the middle) cannot be determined
for its inconsistency and being unlabelled. This exemplifies the component which is
distorting data through visual forms.

Overall, the graph at first glance is visually appealing but analyzing its content gives us
more in-depth relevant information not just from its appearance.
