FOXMAN - clear and easy
FOXMAN is ABB’s answer to the
growing requirements for an integrated
Network Management for Next
Generation Networks based on ABB’s
Communication Solutions. FOXMAN
covers all management tasks of the FOX
family, which offers a wide range of
communication services like Protection
signalling, Voice / PDH / SDH and
Ethernet based connections up to
STM-64 and WDM support.
FOXMAN’s modularity allows easy
southbound integration of other ABB
communication solutions or third party
products. Northbound interfacing to
overlaying Management Systems like HP
Openview can be achieved as well.
PC based Multi-View Platform
FOXMAN runs on Windows based
PC systems (Windows 2000 / XP) and
supports dual-view displays options for
enhanced network display with animated,
geographical network representation. All
management tasks can be performed by
simple point and click operation.
The topology tree provides fast access to
all network elements as managed objects.
Equipment parameters can be configured
and changed with few mouse clicks.
Hierarchical network maps including
support of Management Domains are
easily generated by drag and drop. Any
third party representing objects can
be added and linked to the relevant
information sources.

FOXMAN Features
n Fault and Alarm Management
Full support of continuously updated
Alarm and Event list windows including an
acknowledgement process that allows trace
back of NMS-related activities. Comment
fields can be attached for additional event
information. The network view represents
equipment failures and their severity levels
according to a user definable coloring
scheme; detailed alarm information can be
retrieved by few clicks on the corresponding
network element icon.
n Configuration Management
Once connected to the network, all network
elements can be completely configured re-
motely. Configuration files can be backed up
or restored at any time. All the configuration
management of TDM services (e.g. VLANs,
filtering, routing, QoS profiles) can be done
via FOXMAN.
n Performance Management
FOXMAN can monitor individual ports
of network elements and measure their
performance according to the correspond-
ing standards such as G.826, RFC1213 and
RMON.
