Create and Execute CATT Procedure

A CATT (Computer Aided Test Tool) Procedure Can be used for transactions which have to be done repeatedly.
One example is the uploading of the Customer Master. The fields which have to be changed each time can be
defined as an variable and put in an Excel sheet. The excel sheet forms than the basis on which the transaction is
runned.

The following Steps have to be taken.


1. Record Transaction
2. Define which fields are variable.
3. Download variables to Excel
4. Fill Spreadsheet
5. Execute CATT

Record Transaction
Follow Menu Path: System > Services > CATT > Record Environment > CATT Extended

1. Enter Test Case Name (Start always with Z, e.g. ZcustomerUpload) and Press Create.
2. Enter Transaction code you want to Record
3. Complete the transaction
4. Press End Recording and copy
5. Press Save and the Green Back Arrow, you have now returned to the following screen.
Define the fields which are variable
In this step, the fields which can be changed are selected.

1. Follow Menupath: Environment > CATT Extended


2. Press Change, the following screen appears.

3. Double click on the first line.

6. Select First line. Customer Master Initial Screen and Press Field List. This brings you to the following Screen.
7. Double click on the items which are variable and can not be defaulted and have to be uploaded by an Excel
sheet. The following screen appears.

8. The Parameter Name appears in the Excel sheet later as a column heading. This Parameter name can be
changed if necessary. Press Enter
9. The default value for this Parameter name is 10. Press Enter. Change the Default value if it should be
something different.
10. You will return to the ‘Maintain Input Values Screen’. Maintain all the fields, which can be a variable in the
screen and press than Next screen.
11. After the last screen Press the Green Back Arrow, till you come to the ‘Maintain Functions’ (Step 7) Screen.
12. Press Save

Download Variables to Excel


1. Follow Menu path: System > Services > CATT > Record Environment > CATT Extended
2. Select the Test Case
3. Follow Menu path: Goto > Variants > Export Default
4. Enter the file name and location of the .TXT file and Press Transfer
Fill Excel Spreadsheet
1. Start Excel
2. Follow Menu path: File > Open and select the file (Remember that the extension is .TXT)

3. Make sure that ‘Delmited’ is marked and press Next


4. Make sure that ‘TAB’ is marked and press Next
5. Press Finish, the following screen appears.

The first 4 lines can not be touched. Does line define the logic for the CATT procedure. The sequence of those
columns can also not be changed. The sequence is determined by the time that you make a field a Variable.

6. Fill the columns and Save the excel file as a .TXT file
Execute CATT Procedure
1. Follow Menu path: System > Services > CATT > Record Environment > CATT Extended
2. Select the Test Case and Press Execute, the following screen appears.

3. The processing mode is now in the foreground, normally with large volumes you have to select
background.
4. Select Variants ‘External from File’, Press Choose and select the .TXT file with the records.
5. Press Execute. Make sure that Excel file is closed. The CATT procedure will generate only error messages
when the Excel sheet is open.
6. The CATT procedure will now execute the recorded transaction, when finished it will show an error log
with the errors if errors have occurred with the reason.
