Drones

The word drone has two distinct meanings; the first one is a low humming sound that

goes continuously, and the second indicates the male bee. A drone, in the technological

terms, is a small, remotely controlled aerial vehicle; that is, they are unmanned vehicles. They

look like helicopters or reconnaissance aircraft. Drones are more formally known as

unmanned aircraft systems (UASes) or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). A drone

essentially is a flying robot that can be controlled remotely, or fly autonomously in their

embedded systems through software-controlled flight plans, working in conjunction with

onboard sensors and GPS. No doubt, drones are among the most advanced devices in today's

aeronautics, electronics, and robotics alike.

History of drones traces dates back to 1849 in Italy when Venice was fighting for its

independence from Australia. Then, during the First World War 1918, the first pilotless

radio-controlled aircraft were used. The development and testing of unmanned aircraft

continued during the interwar period. The first used drone appeared in 1935 as a full-size

retooling of the de Havilland DH82B "Queen Bee" biplane, which was fitted with a radio and

servo-operated controlled aircraft to be used a target for training purposes[ CITATION Ric16 \l

the same case of war, the demand for drones grew so high because they were improvised to

ranges that could be used in new roles, like launching missiles against fixed targets, acting as

decoys in combat, and dropping leaflets for psychological operations. Following these

advancements, countries like the United States and Britain began to explore unmanned aerial

technology.

Drones now have a variety of functions it performs, and what’s more, there is no end

when it comes to their possibilities. Therefore, today, there are numerous areas of application,

and there are increasing demand and use of drones throughout the universe. Its functionality

ranges from carrying out search operations after natural disasters to monitoring climate

change, delivering, filming, delivering goods, and photography. In addition, military use

drones for surveillance, targeted attacks, and identification or reconnaissance, of which, it is

their most well-known and controversial use. In general, the U.S. has substantially increased

its use of drones, after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Drones are mostly used for surveillance

where troops are unable to go safely in areas and terrains. But they are also used as weapons,

and suspected militants have been credited with killing (Floreano et al.). Their use in modern

conflicts and some countries has raised concerns about the legality of this kind of weapons,

especially when it leads to civilian deaths, whether due to inaccurate data or due to their

proximity to a 'target.'

Although drones serve a range of purposes, flight and navigation are its two primary

functions. Drones are made up of a power source such as rotors, battery or gas, propellers,

and a frame that makes to achieve the flight. A drone's frame is typically made of

lightweight, composite materials to reduce weight and increase flight maneuverability.

Drones need a controller that an operator uses remotely to launch, maneuver, and land it.

Controllers use radio waves, including Wi-Fi, to communicate with the device[ CITATION

Uses of drones have a far-reaching end. Organizations and governments are on the

push to start and improvise the use of drones to help carry out the task. Currently, drones are

used in health care services to save people's lives and also provide more flexibility in service

provision. Drones are providing mobile healthcare, as they are being used for carrying more

abundant supplies like automated external defibrillators to reach patients where ambulances

cannot access. In addition, drones are used in providing emerging medical services. The rapid

distribution of vaccines, medications, and supplies, using drones right to the source, can

suppress outbreaks of infectious diseases that endanger life. Communication devices, mobile

technology, and the portable shelter provide a comprehensive list of what could be

transported rapidly to areas where significant damage to infrastructure could stop other means

of transport.

The use of drones in the near future to healthcare services is very thought-provoking.

Drones are prevalent nowadays, and they have countless applications. However, they're going

to be much better in the future, likely to have more invented forms that would assist in

carrying commands. The main challenge encountered in carrying out duties using drones is

payload capacity to battery life and other related regulations. Drones are still being used

today to transport goods to remote locations, for surveillance, and so on. We can look

forward to seeing robots in the future that can do even more.

In conclusion, drones have provided enormous benefits that are realized by the

government and organizations that have deployed the use of drones. Any improvement and

adjustment done in the near future to drones will see great achievement that will contribute to

life improvement as well and a better provision of services in different fields.
