Abstract
In this laboratory we will be able to put into practice the concept of alkanes and their
respective uses in daily life by means of candle making, using a raw material based on
alkanes. The alkanes are composed of carbon and hydrogen that only contain carbon-
carbon simple bonds, they fulfill the general formula CnH2n + 2, where n is the carbon
number of the molecule. Throughout the practice, the respective processes will be done,
such as the melting of raw materials to obtain a good quality product.
Key words
1. Alkanes: are hydrocarbons, that is, compounds that only contain carbon and hydrogen
atoms.
2. Carbon: An abundant chemical element in nature, both in living beings and in the
mineral world and in the atmosphere
5. Molecule: Minimum unit of a substance that retains its chemical properties and can be
formed by the same or different atoms.
