2. What was your duty on board the last vessel?
A: worked under the C/O and I assisted the C/O in performing various duty of Deck
Department and shall in person, organize and execute the duties ordered by the C/O.

(1) to make my rounds all over the decks to see everything is in order;
(2) to arrange for the jobs for the rating in the deck department;
(3) under the leadership and with approval of the C/O, carry out the maintenance of
hull, deck machinery, equipment, cargo gears and other;

6. When you are on watch keeping, if you find something wrong with the vessel
in some part,
what should you do?
A: I shall report it to the watching offices immediately.
7. What should be born in mind when you paint?
A: I shall choose the appropriate paints; choose the right brushed, keep the painted
area clean and dry. I should choose the beat weather condition when the painting
work is done (usually from 5 degrees to 25 degrees). Paint in correct order, usually
from left to right, from up to the down side, from inside to outside. Enough intervals
should be kept between two paintings. Keep safety measure and protection. Do not
make any pollution at any time and any place.
8. Tell us the names of some marks on the shell plate.
A: There are draught marks, deck line mark, load line (winter, summer, tropical
fresh water,
timber) mark, tonnage mark, bulbous bow and thruster marks, tug pushing point
mark and so on.

I am an AB if I see a man over board . the first I speak loud MOB ON
STARBOARD or PORT SIDE whenever found out and report to the bridge as soon
as possible , then throwing any lifebuoy of floating to the side of man overboard .
On the bridge must put the rudder to the side of man overboard , release the self
igniting smoke lifebuoy on the side of man overboard , alert onboard by public
addresser , put the MOB button on the present position . report to the master
broadcast by VHF to all vessels in vicinity area
Question 6 : ABANDON SHIP
Duties of the Able Seamen (AB’s)
AB’s are to execute the orders given by the Chief Officer either directly or from the
Boatswain, and the Officer on watch. Their duties include but are not limited to:
1.Steering the ship, and handling flags, pilot ladders, and signal and station lights;
2.Undertaking navigational duties such as keeping a lookout as required by the
officer of the watch;
3.Gangway watch in port including the tending of the gangway or accommodation
ladder, mooring ropes and rat guards and the anchor(s) whilst the vessel is at an
anchorage;
4.Undertake all the duties assigned to them and instruct and guide Ordinary Seamen.
Duties of the Ordinary Seamen (OS)
Ordinary Seamen are to execute the orders given by the Chief Officer either directly
or from the Boatswain, and the Officer on watch. Their duties include but are not
limited to:
1.Handling of mooring ropes, cargo gear readiness, opening and closing the hatch
covers or pontoons;
2.The cleaning and upkeep of cargo holds and other spaces, decks, cabins, and
sanitary spaces.

Rất nhiều bạn hỏi mình câu hỏi tương tự thế này , thậm chí có bạn còn mail hỏi mình
công ty thành lập vào ngày tháng năm nào, mình cho rằng khôgn cần thiết. Nhừng
điều cơ bản anh pilotco2 đã nói ở trên( rất cám ơn anh!), chỉ xin lưu ý bạn một vài
điểm nhỏ sau: thứ nhất là trang bị cho mình đầy đủ kiến thức căn bản(vững vàng và
chắc chăn), tiếp theo là vốn tiếng anh cơ bản vững, kế đó là cởi mở ( rất nhiều
trường hợp khi phỏng vấn hình như các bạn bị khớp) và cuối cùng chúc các bạn có
đầy đủ tự tin để thành công. Mình nghĩ VINIC hay bất kỳ các công ty khác cũng đều
cần những thuyền viên ( người lao động )có những tó chất như vậy.
P/s: Cuối cùng xin nhắc các bạn 1 lưu ý nhỏ, khi chuẩn bị hồ sơ các bạn cần trình
bày rõ ràng về bản thân cũng như đinh hướng của mình, rất nhiều hồ sơ tôi tiếp nhận
trượt từ vòng ngoài vì một bộ hồ sơ không có chút thông tin nào cho nhà tuyển dụng.
DECK DEPARRMENT
IF YOU ARE OS
ORDINARY SEAMAN Ordinary Seaman is person who works onboard a ship for
the first time, You are belong to deck Department. You should execute orders from
Chief Officer, Officers on Watch, Bosun and Able seaman.
You shall be assigned to keep the watch or engage in cargo handling. engage in
mooring rope operating when entering or leaving port. Attending to maitenance and
repair works of Deck Department...
You are assistant onboard, sometimes you could not avoid mistakes, so you should
study more and more to complete your duties.
If you are assigned to keep lookout watch, Your position is on bridge. You should
know panel to switch on/off flashing lights, navigation lights, anchor lights, not
under command lights, ship's whistle... You should find "G" flag, "H" flag, Letter
flags equal to Ship's Callsign, "Q" flag, "B" flag... You also should know how to
hoist 2 black Balls when the ship is not under command. You should know how
many fresh water, ballast water, bilge water tanks does the ship distribute onboard.
Position of sounding holes of all tanks onboard, position of pilot ladder, safety net
for gangway.
If you are assigned to keep cargo handling watch, your position is on deck and
arround cargo hold. Study about the way to close/open hatch cover, position to keep
cargo flashing lights, place to switch on/off cargo ventilation fan. position to
distribute stair up/down cargo hold. Pay attention to accidents happened when
operating cargo, study how to prepare ship's cranes before operating cargo, start
windlass, Lashing and secure cranes before arrival port.... Thích 0 Chia sẻ 0
When attending in mooring rope operating, your position is at forecastle or poop
deck, assigned by Chief Officer order. You must know where heaving lines, fenders,
both lines ... are kept? Position of windlass control handle, ballard fitted for each
rope, position of spray water vavle.
When engage in maintenance work , you should know about position of paint store,
bosun store, paint brush, rope and chipping tools, safety belt...
IF YOU ARE AB
If you are Able Seaman. If you are AB(Able Seaman), You must execute all orders
given by Chief Officer, Officer of the Watch, and Bosun.
Your duties are keeping the watch on bridge, at anchor, in port, cargo handling,
check daily fresh water, ballast remain onboard and consumption , engage in
mooring handling at forward(forecastle) or poop deck, engage in maintenance
works. For speciffication, what will you do?
When engage in navigation watch, you will assist for Officer on watch. Your
position is on bridge. At sea, Officer of the watch can order to you steering the ship,
keep look out or cleaning, switch on/off navigation
lights, not under command lights/signals. Patrol arround the ship, check bilge
sounding lwhen ordered...when the ship arrives port, you must prepare flag "G" for
pilot require, "H" flag, Ship registed flag, "Q" flag.hoist up flags on the Mast as
required.
When you keep the watch at anchor, you will assist for Officer of the watch. Your
position is on deck or bridge. Switch on/off anchor lights, hoist anchor ball. Pay
attention to all information on VHF relating to your
ship. Take care of using Whistle/Flash lights to warn for ships moving arround and
near your ship. Look out Distance from your ship to others. Report in time to
Officer on watch for all information on VHF relating to your ship, weather
information, tide, movement of your ship.
When keeping watch in port, you will assist to Officer on watch. Your position is
at Gangway. You must hoist/lower down flag daily. Pay attention to Gangway,
security of the ship, monitor person embarked/Disembarked. Report to Officer on
watch or Master all informations relating to your ship or authorized persons. Switch
on/off lights or flag signal for Dangerous Goods onboard or Bunkering. Adjust
Mooring ropes. Take care of Fenders between ship and habour. Pay attention and
warn to all crews when working on high position, overboard, in holds, welding or
cutting works...
In Cargo handling watch, you will assist to Officer on watch. Your position is
arround cargo holds. You must know about kind of cargo, hold position to be loaded
or discharged. For loading, cargo hold must be clean not depend on cargo loaded.
Before entering in hold, it must be ventilated properly. At night, you must provide
cargo lights in hold. Observe weather and close hatch covers before raining. Intruct
to every body avoiding stand under the cargo stack, not to smoke in hold. When
loading or discharging Dangeruos cargo or flammable cargo, standby fire fighting
equipments and first Aids. Before close cargo hatch cover, make sure for safety of
fire prevention and not remaining any crew inside.
When ordered to take soundings, you must know thoroughly positions of sounding
holes. Normally, you should take sounding of cargo hold bilge, ballast tanks, fresh
water tanks on daily. The marking of sounding holds usually marked on sounding
pipes. sounding holes of cargo bilge are distributed beside the head of each cargo
hold. sounding holes of ballast tannks and fresh water tanks are distributed at edge
of each tank at aft part . You can refer to "general arrangement plan" or "capacity
plan" posted on lobby to know corect positions of their sounding holes. As
egulation, you should use particular sounding rule to take sounding of fresh water
tanks. All sounding data must be record into sounding record book. There have " Thích 0 Chia sẻ 0
sounding record book of cargo bilge", "sounding record book of ballast tanks", "
sounding record book of fresh water tanks" onboard.
In operation of Mooring handling when arrival or departure, your position is at
forecastle deck or poopdeck. You must follow the order of Officer. Before that, you
should standby heaving lines, both lines, fenders. standby for winch, and order for
spray water for anchor.
In maintenance works, you must follow Bosun. You will do maintenance off fire
fighting appliances, life saving appliances, cargo gears, lubricate and grease for
cranes and movable parts, chipping and painting structures and ship's hull.
IF YOU ARE 3RD OFFICER
If you are 3rd Officer You are 3rd Officer, you hold Deck Officer Certificate. So
you are Deck Officer. You will assist for Master and Chief Officer.
Your specific duties are following:
1.Execute competely the duties of Deck Officer.
Execute the duties of Deck Officer as: Navigation watch, Port watch, cargo handlig
watch, all the duties under instruction of the 2nd Officer and Chief Officer.
2. Prepare the ship before leaving port.
review all works before daprture 12 hrs. IS that so early? It is not so early, because
you need minimum time to revise all missing (if have). Notice the ETD to Chief
Engineer, Chief Officer, check for communication equipments between BridgeForecastlePoop DeckEngine
Room. Test for Engine Telegraph, whistle, signals
equuipments relate to manuovering the ship. Test for all bridge GMDSS equipments,
steering Gear.
3. Bridge Preparation before Manuovering.
You should do that prior at least 1 hr. Take the data before manuover as : fore and
aft draff, fuel, fresh water, quantity of cargo onboard...
Notice to Chief Engineer to prepare the Engine. Test for all Bridge GMDSS
equuipments. Test for Gyro Compass Error, Magnitic Compass Error, Synchronize
all Repeater Indicators. Test for the Ship's Whistle , Navigation Lights, Not Under
Command Light, Moorse Lights... Test Internal, BridgeForecastlePoop deck
Communication equipments. Cooperate with Engineer to test Engine telegraph.
Switch on Steering Gear, Test all steering modes : hand steering, level, auto pilot,
and all Alarm signals. Try the rudder to hard port and starboard side. Synchronize
rudder indicator between Bridge and Engine Room.
When The Bridge gives "readiness of Notice" you should carry out for testing
Engine Telegraph. compare clock between Engine Room and Bridge, record all data
of Engine telegraph testing to Bell Book. record the content of checking and testing
for all equipments to Deck Logbook.
4.Pick up Pilot and send messenger from Master.
You are incharge of Picking up and down the Pilot, your position is on bridge when
manuovering. Your duties are transfer the Master 's orders and operating Telegraph.
record all engine telegraph orders to Bell Book. Record all relating operations to
Ship Log Book.
5. Navigation watch.
When navigating or anchoring, your position is on bridge. You are incharge of the
watch from 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs and 2000 hrs to 2400 hrs. You should maintain the
ship in safe during your watch at sea.
6. Port watch.
Your positionn is on deck. You must monitor for ship's safety. Care for the safety of
Gangway, Mooring ropes, on deck flashing light, embarkation person, ballast water,
bilge...
7. Cargo watch.
You are cargo Officer, when ship is operating cargo handling. your position is Thích 0 Chia sẻ 0
surround cargo hold.
You should thuroughly understand for Cargo stowage Plan. quantity of cargo to be
loaded or discharged on your duty... You also must calculate and control for balance,
healing, trim as Master's order.
8. Manage and maintenance for LSA and FFA onboard.
When you are not in duty , you should care and maintenance for LSA and FFA on
board, Sketch out the checklist for maintenance FFA. usually check for their
quantities and condition. make plan to repair them. Replace in time when they are
expired. Maintain them onboard to comply with SOLAS requirement. The List of
FFA and LSA must be mentioned on "LSA and FFA arrangement Plan" posted on
the lobby onboard.
