DEFINITION: Gender is the recognition and classification given to human beings, animals and
things as either male or female.
1: Masculine Gender: This gender is for male. E.g boy, man, brother, father, uncle, etc.
2: Feminine Gender: This gender is for female. E.g girl, woman, sister, mother, aunty, etc.
3: Common Gender: This gender is used for nouns that denotes either male or female. E.g baby,
pupils, cousin, children, guest, etc.
4: Neuter Gender: This gender is for things without life (inanimate). E.g book, table, house, fan,
pencil, etc.

Lesson 2
Meaning:
The heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood through the blood vessels to other parts of the
body.
It is situated between the two lungs and slightly to the left behind the breastbone (sternum).
The heart pumps around 5.7litres of blood in a day throughout the body.
The structure of the heart houses the biggest artery in the body called aorta. The right and left
region of the heart are separated by a wall of muscle called septum.
CHAMBERS OF THE HEART
The heart is made up of upper and lower chambers.
The upper chamber is called atrium (auricle). There are left and right atrium. The two atria are
blood receiving chambers.
The lower chamber is called ventricle. There are also left and right ventricle. The ventricles are
responsible for pumping and pushing blood out of the heart.
LAYERS OF THE HEART
1). Pericardium
2). Epicardium
3). Myocardium
4). Endocardium
FUNCTIONS OF THE HEART.
1). The heart pumps blood throughout the body.
2). It ensures that adequate blood pressure is maintained in the body.
3). The heart transports nutrients, hormones, oxygen to all parts of the body.
4). It separates oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood to avoid mix up.
5). The heart maintain a constant flow of blood throughout the body.
