Pre-requisites:

Admission to student teaching

Course Description:

ED 4693 – elementary – Observations and supervised teaching in the elementary


school. Requires full-time attendance in schools for 12 weeks.

ED 4696 – Grades 4-8 – observation and supervised teaching in a classroom for grades
4-8. Requires full-time attendance in schools for 12 weeks.

Outcome:

Student will gradually, under supervision, become the full-time teacher in the classroom.
The student will adhere to the teacher of record’s duties and responsibilities. These
include but are not limited to: planning, classroom instruction, faculty meetings, and
other required duties (lunchroom, car pool, recess, etc.) Upon completion of the course
the student will be prepared and qualified to seek a full time teaching position in their
instructional area.

Assignments & Academic Calendar:

Three informal observations and two formal observations: times to be


determined by student teacher and Field Supervisor

Keeping a daily journal that will be reviewed at observation times

Paper due at last observation: Summaries of growth (5 proficiencies/domains)

Grading Policy:

Student must earn an A or B to be recommended for certification.

Steady growth, in all areas, is expected during the 12 week student teaching
assignment. Culminating with well planned and executed lessons following good teacher
practices and good rapport with students, faculty, staff, and parents (if allowed by
district).

Course & Instructor Policies:

Student teacher will abide by the Student Teaching Handbook and the policies therein.
Student teacher will be in weekly contact with the Field Supervisor.
Daily, on time attendance is required.
Absent days will be added on to the end of the assignment.

Off-campus Instruction and Course Activities:

Full-time attendance at an elementary or middle school


Possible field trip while student teaching
Possible off site teacher workshop (following teacher of record
responsibilities)
