Course Objectives:

Course Objectives : The students should be able to Learn


1. Basic concepts of measurement of temperature, pressure, level and flow.
2. Various types of flow meters used in flow measurement.
3. Constructional details of sensors and transducers used in temperature and pressure
measurement.
4. Importance of signal conditioning circuit in a measurement system.
5. The basic safety practices used in industrial processes.
6. Calibration methods for flow meters.

Course Outcomes: At the end of the course, student will be able to:

CO1 Recognize the physics of pressure, temperature, level and flow measurement used to
control dynamics of processes.
CO2 Illustrate the construction and working principle of various type of transducers/sensor to
measure physical quantities.

Select instruments according to the application.
CO4 Design signal conditioning circuits and compensation schemes for temperature measuring
instruments.
CO5 Demonstrate a working knowledge of safety practices used in the measurement and
control of industrial processes.
CO6 Assemble commonly used process variable measurement devices through proper
selection, identification, design, installation and principal of operation in industries.

constants, Terrestrial constants and Properties of Water.
Fluid mechanics: Pressure, Hydraulic power system,
Pneumatic power system, Pascal's principle and hydrostatic
pressure, Review of RTD, Thermistor and Thermocouple.

Measurement of Velocity(Speed):
Speed: Measurement of speed, moving iron and moving coil
Type, AC and DC Tacho generator, Stroboscope.
Torque: Measurement of torque, Inductive principle and

Temperature Measurement: Methods of Temperature
measurement, Bi-metal temperature sensors, Filled-bulb
temperature sensors. Electrical Type temperature Measurement:
RTD, Temperature measurement change in physical properties, CO2
