PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT (PERDEV)
Grade 12

ORIENTATION TO PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

To the learner of this course,

Welcome to this course, PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT or PERDEV, for short. This is a very
interesting course and can be personally rewarding for you because the subject matter of this course is
YOURSELF!

You have now entered a new educational level, as well as new psychological and social level, called the
middle and late adolescence. You may feel that you are no longer the awkward rapidly growing teenager, but
may also feel that you are not quite ready to call YOURSELF as mature adults either.

This course shall invite you to take a deeper look at yourself and analyze your developmental changes,
your skills and traits which can help you meet the various tasks that you must undertake at this point in your
life. This course shall provide you with some techniques to meet stress and other mental health issues with your
own strengths and coping powers. This course also offers you the chance to analyze your relationships with
your family, friends and significant others and help you map where you are in your career development and
how to get to where you want to be.

This course uses the experiential approach to learning. I urge you to be active and sincere in all our
activities as we explore specific themes in this course. You shall share your own thoughts, feelings and
experiences as you make personal reflections through journal writing. You should have a journal specifically for
this subject where you will write your reflections, insights and comments. You should also have a long clear
book as your portfolio for PERDEV. This is where you will store the reflections, research outputs, journal
entries, self-assessment exercises, and other written materials and artworks which you will do for this course.

I look forward for your active cooperation as I facilitate your journey towards PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT!

Best regards,
