Class F2 - Hire & Drive Motor Vessels

All Lengths Lifejacket:
A Coastal lifejacket,or PFD1,with whistle for each adult and child aboard the vessel.
Note: P.F.D. may be permitted by the Authority in special cases
Less than 7.5 m Lifebuoy:
1 Lifebuoy with buoyant line not less than 15 m in length and not less than 9 mm in diameter.
Note: Only required when vessel is outfitted for overnight accommodation
7.5 m and over but Lifebuoy:
less than 10 m 1 Lifebuoy with buoyant line not less than 20 m in length and not less than 9 mm in diameter.
Note: Only required when vessel is outfitted for overnight accommodation
10 m and over Lifebuoys:
2 Lifebuoys, one with a lifebuoy light and one with buoyant line.
Note: Buoyant line not less than 25 m in length and not less than 9 mm in diameter.
All Lengths Diagram:
A schematic drawing of the designated cruising area that identifies hazards to be avoided and
any other relevant information for the safe operation of the vessel. A vessel under 7.5m in
length requires a diagram where the vessel operates remotely from the point of hire.

All Lengths Distress Signals:


Not require
d if vessel operates in smooth water areas.
Vessels that operate up to a 6 miles radius of point of entry into other than smooth waters are
required to carry 2 red hand flares and 2 orange smoke flares.
Vessel that operate at more than a 6 mile radius of point of entry into other than smooth waters
are required to carry 3 distress rockets, 2 red hand flares and 1 orange smoke.
All Lengths Sound Signals:
To comply with the requirements of the Collision Regulations
All Lengths Anchors and Anchor Cables:
Sufficient in number, mass, length and strength, approved by the Authority.
All Lengths Medical Supplies:
To the requirements of the U.S.L Code scale “G”
Less than 7.5 m One Boat Hook
All Lengths Navigation Lights:
To comply with the requirements of the Collision Regulations
Note: Not required on vessels Less Than 7.5 m operating “Daylight Hours Only”
7.5 m and over but Compass:
less than 10 m Only required when vessel is outfitted for overnight accommodation
Note: Compass to be adjusted before initial survey.
10 m and over Compass:
Note: Compass to be adjusted before initial survey
Less than 10 m Torch:
At least 1 waterproof torch
10 m and over Torch:

e.g. “Daylight Hours Only”, “Licensed to Carry XX Persons”, “No smoking near Engine or Fuel

All Lengths Fire Smothering Blanket:
Note: Only required when fixed cooking facilities are installed

10 m and over Fire Bucket:
2 metal buckets with lanyard of not less than 9 litres capacity. To be painted red with “Fire” in
distinct white letters on the exterior
Less than 5 m Portable Fire Extinguishers:
1 Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher of not less then 0.9 kg
5 m and over but Portable Fire Extinguisher:
less than 7.5 m 1 Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher of not less than 4.5 kg.
7.5 m and over Portable Fire Extinguisher:
1 Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher of not less than 4.5 kg. and 1 Foam Fire Extinguisher of not
less than 9 litres.
12.5 m and over Fixed Fire Extinguisher Installation - Machinery Space:
A vessel fitted with oil fired boilers or internal combustion type machinery used for main
propulsion and decked in way of the machinery space, a fixed fire extinguishing installation
complying with Appendix F of the U.S.L. Code
All Lengths Smoke Alarm:
Required in accommodation and galley

Pump Details:

In any vessel:

(a) a power pump may be substituted for a manually operated pump;

(b) a power pump may be driven by a main engine, an auxiliary engine or by an electric motor.
However, where two power pumps are required, each pump shall not be dependent on the
same source of power;

(c) where a vessel is required to be fitted with 2 power pumps and the capacity of one of those
pumps is less than that specified by not more than 20%, the deficiency may be made good
by an excess of capacity in the other power pump; and

(d) a bilge pump shall be of the self priming type or be provided with a suitable priming device.

In vessels of less than 7.5 metres:

A bailer of sufficient capacity and solid construction may take the place of a Manual Bilge Pump.
