We need to ensure, when travelling our ponies, that they are correctly dressed to avoid any
injuries – particularly the legs. Protection can be provided in the form of either boots or bandages:

If using leg wraps or bandages that do not offer protection for the knees and / or hocks, then knee
boots & hock boots can also be used.
Over-reach boots can also offer extra heel protection and help prevent shoes from being pulled off

Pony Club C Test – Travelling
TRUE or FALSE
If your horse is tricky to load, you can try riding it into the
trailer / lorry
You should always use a leather headcollar when travelling as
this will break more easily in an emergency
You should always ensure that you, and any helpers, are
wearing a hat and gloves when loading or unloading a pony
To make sure you pony does not pull away, wrap the lead-rope
firmly around your hand
If travelling one pony in a double trailer, you should load the
pony into the right hand side partition
Make sure, when going up the ramp, that you are in the middle
of the ramp with your pony to one side
If your pony hangs back, stand in the trailer & pull firmly until
he steps forward
Leave the pony untied until he is secured by either the ramp
being put up on a trailer, or partitions fitted across in a lorry
When tying up, leave the rope fairly long so that the pony can
look round when it wants to
When putting up ramps, stand to one side in case the ramp falls
back
When unloading, you should untie the horse before lowering
ramps or breast bars
If you are unloading 2 horses, you should unload the one nearest
the ramp first
As soon as you can, jump off the ramp so that the pony has
plenty of room to walk down
Always let the pony load at the speed he is happiest. If he likes
to jump on & off, make sure your rope is long enough.
