Hydroelectric power plant

INTRODUCTION
Energy is the most important thing on this world on the living plants and animals on his earth
require energy to perform any type of work. There are two types of energy sources.

1. Conventional or non-renewable energy sources

2. Non-conventional or renewable energy sources

1. CONVENTIONAL:

The energy sources which we are using from long time and which are in danger of exhausting
are called as conventional or non-renewable energy sources. They are not renewed by nature
and they are perishable are going to get exhausted one day example, coal ,petroleum products,
nuclear fuels etc.

2. NON-CONVENTIONAL:

These are energy sources those utilization technology is not at fully developed. These are
sources which can be recovered or reused either can be used again and again to generate energy
because of renewal of energy.

PLANT PROCESS
We are going to consider on of the ways of generation of energy from non-convectional energy
namely hydraulic energy .As the name suggest it I the energy obtained from water .The main
principle used in this type is kinetic energy of falling water is converted into electric energy
using turbines.

PLANT DETAILS
Main parts of the hydrolytic plant are:

 DAM:

Raises the water level of the river to create falling water, also controls the flow
of water. The reservoir that is formed is, in effect, stored energy.

 TURBINE:

The force of falling water pushing against the turbine blades causes the turbine to spin .A water
turbine is much like a windmill, except the energy is provided by falling water instead of wind.
The turbine converts the kinetic energy of falling water into mechanical energy.

 GENERATOR:

Connected to the turbine a shaft and possibly gears so when the turbine spins it causes the
generator to spin. Converts the mechanical energy from the turbine into electricity energy
generators in the hydraulic power plant work like the generators in other type of power pants.

 TRANSMISSION LINES:

Conduct electricity from the hydropower plants to homes and business.

The amount of electricity hydropower plant produces depends upon the two factors.

1. How far the water falls: The farther the falls, the more power it has .Generally
the distance that the water falls depends upon the size of the dam. Higher the dam the
farther the waterfall, more power it has. Scientist would say that the power of water
falling is directly proportional to the distance it falls. In other words the water falling
twice as far has twice as much energy.
2. Amount of water falling: More water falling through the turbine will produce
more over. The amount of water available depends the amount of water falling down
the river. Bigger rivers have more flowing water and can produce more energy. Power
is also ‘Directly proportional’ to river flow. A river with twice the amount of flowing
water as another river can produce twice as much energy.

CONCLUSION
From the visit, we got the information about hydro power plant. We got information
about different parts of power plant. We got the idea of how electricity is produced from
water.
