VI. Rationale:
One of the problems of Brgy. 4 San Francisco Sarrat, Ilocos Norte is the improper
waste disposal. And we all know that living in a place where there is mixed waste which made
unpleasant smell is bad for every individuals health. Waste segregation is one of the vital
components in living a healthy life. So, in order to live a healthy life, it must be separated into
three categories: the biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable.
The purpose of this study is to involve the community in proper waste disposal in
order to solve problem of uncollected waste in the barangay. This projects also aims to let the
people of the community educate themselves, cooperate, practice and participate. And let this be
a part of their daily living activities and even after the implementation or end of this project.

VII. Objectives
For the Community:
• To enhance Proper Waste Disposal to prevent floods.
• To reduce the risk of attack of diseases.
• To promote cleanliness and orderliness of the Barangay.
• To increase awareness to the residents about proper waste disposal
and segregation.
 • To provide trash cans with signage's about things that will be put in
each trash can.
For the students:
• To convey knowledge about promoting Proper Waste Disposal
Practices.
• To enhance their capabilities at their young age.
VIII. Strategies to sustain the extension program
We must first conduct a survey to the barangay residents about proper waste
disposal and segregation. Upon taking the result, we will consult the barangay officials about the
project and the implementation. In order implement the project proposal, we need to look for
donors. And afterwards, the team will now purchase the items and tools for the project. Then,
place the properly labeled trash bins into necessary places and near highways. Lastly, the
students of Northwestern University and the barangay officials of Brgy. 4 will now conduct a
seminar and orientation regarding proper waste disposal around the barangay and also at their
own home. In addition, the garbage collector truck of the barangay will be very strict in picking
up garbage. If it is not well segregated the garbage collector will not pick it up, in order to
educate them to segregate well and obey rules.
