IV. Procedures
A. Reviewing Previous Lesson or Presenting the New Lesson

Hello, guys. How are you? I hope everyone is safe and sound. It’s our 7 th week
session in EAPP modular learning. That’s amazing. Keep it up!!! In the previous week,
we discussed in our session the details on concept paper. Once more, we will revisit
CONCEPT PAPER/CONCEPT ESSAY with further information and instruction on how
to construct it an. Let us recall, what is a concept paper? Ready?

B. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson

TARGET GOALS:
For this session set your mind on the target goals:
Present a novel concept or project
with accompanying visuals/graphic

Now let us connect your previous lesson on outlining to constructing a concept paper/concept essay. In
the previous session, it was noted that an outline serves as the map or blue-print of your essay. An outline allows a
writer to categorize the main points, to organize the paragraphs into an order that makes sense, and to make sure
that each paragraph/idea can be fully developed.

Examine the outline draft of the writer on the concept essay titled “Language Acquisition and Learning:
Understanding How We Communicate” By: Daryl Wyson.

D. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills #1

Always remember that the purpose of a concept paper is to explain, clarify or theorize a particular concept
so that it can be discussed in the world of the academe. A concept essay is the combination of research and
analytical writing skills. Since you will be presenting a topic, you need to back it up with factual data as well
your own personal judgment of it that will provide better understanding for the readers When you write a
concept paper you are contributing to the dialogue of the scholars about a given topic.

In building up a concept paper, it is important to connect theory and experience. Theory comes from
the numerous academic text written about your desired topc. While experience comes from the day to day
observations made by the writer. The important thing in writing a concept paper is to be able to connect the two-
theory and experience.

What are the steps to follow in writing your concept paper?

 Choose a topic. An effective essay is one that presents a more relevant topic. You need to choose the
right topic first before you start writing.

 Do your research. You have to back up your claims with factual information from reliable sources.
Present at least three to four points for reference.

 Create your outline. The essay outline  of your concept essay because readers will consider how your
ideas are presented.

E. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills #2

Sometimes, any concept is better understood when it is presented in visuals. By visuals we mean, the use of
graphics and visually appealing presentations. This is often done when a repot is needed to be presented in the class; a
business proposal or a marketing plan that is proposed in a business meeting; or advisories, notices, and reminders to the
public.

2
In this era of technology, most of the people, particularly the learners, are classified as visual learners. That
means, they easily understand things when they see it or and example of it. A concept at that may be organized into a
graphical representation through the use of the Graphic Aids or Graphic Organizers.

Graphic Aids or Graphic Organizers Helps to enhance comprehension.  According to the Montgomery
College:a visual or graphic aid isany image that assistsyou, the reader, inunderstanding the text whichaccompanies the
visual aid. Vacca and Vacca (1993) believe that the use of graphic aids in text will:
provide students with the opportunity to decide what parts of the text are important, and how ideas and concepts in the
text are related.

Here is an example of a graphic aid about the ways of how to make a concept paper. Take a look at it.

STRUCTURE OF A CONCEPT ESSAY/PAPER

Introduction

The introductory paragraph announces your subject and

gives an indication of the important points within the essay.
Also, your introduction should contain your thesis statement.
Thesis Statement
A thesis is a sentence or two that states the central idea of
your paper. The thesis allows readers to clearly understand
the purpose of your essay.

BODY

Compose body paragraphs that support your thesis.

Each paragraph conveys one main point. That main
point is stated in the topic sentence of the paragraph.
Research Citation The rest of the paragraph should support that topic
sentence, and all paragraphs should support your
overall thesis.
(In-text Citation-supporting details)

RESEARCH-Think about what you already

know about your subject and then find out
what you don’t know. You are educating
someone about a topic, so make sure you
know as much as possible about it.

CONCUSION

Remind the reader of the main idea of your essay. A

conclusion summarizes the main points of your paper. Be
careful to word this in a new way so your essay does not
seem repetitive.

 Cite your references below the concept essay using

the APA Format.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living

The use of graphic aids in communicating a concept is very important.

Graphic aids communicate what words cannot; Appeal to visual learners; Provide pictures that will aid memory and
retention; Save space and record information in a concise manner; Clarify relationships, such as numerical relationships.

H. Making Generalizations and Abstractions About the Lesson

Remember!
 - Graphic aids improve student performance;
- It Improves students’ reading comprehension;
- Improves thinking and learning skills;
- Aids in Retention;
-It supports implementation of cognitive learning theories; and
- It helps students link existing knowledge organized in schemas to new knowledge.

I. Evaluating Learning

Since you have learned how to make a concept paper and how to explain and clarify and concept, you have to come up
now with your own concept using any graphic aid. Make concept or project with accompanying visuals/graphic aids. You
have the freedom to choose any concepts following the category given to you. (Use a long bond paper)

ABM- Come up with an advertisement of your OWN product.

GAS- Discuss one issue/problem of the government. (e.g. AIDS/HIV, LGBT rights, Anti-Terrorism Bill, Rape)
STEM- Explain COVID-19
