Interpreting Kubota™ Engine Serial and Model Numbers.

Obtaining the serial and model numbers on an engine prior to ordering parts will make the order process easier
on you and the sales person, as well as ensure that the parts you receive are correct for the application. This is an
example of how much detailed information can be embedded in these two sources.

Serial Number:
The serial number is typically used to determine the production date. Engineering changes that usually affect parts
are done at serial number breaks. Serial numbers on Kubota™ engines prior to January 1998 are all numeric. Janu-
ary 1998 and later are alpha-numeric in format (ex, XJ5050, 3Z12345) and can be found in the following locations:

02 & 03 Series, Super Mini and WG/DF 752, 972 On block next to injection pump
05 Series and WG/DF 1005 Rear of block below exhaust manifold
V3300 and V3800 Rear of block below intake manifold
EL/EA and ZB600 Bottom of block oil filter
ALL ENGINE MODELS Rocker Cover Label

Engine Model Number:

In these same locations, there is model identification information on most applications. There is a lot more informa-
tion coded in the Model Number and its format is more complex. Below is an example of an Engine Model Number
and its break down.

Cylinder Code
E = 1 cyl Engine Series
Z = 2 cyl Example:
D = 3 cyl 482, 902 = Super Mini OEM Specification and Version
V = 4 cyl 1702 = 02 Series Rand = Ingersoll-Rand
F = 5 cyl 2203 = 03 Series “T” Denotes Moridge = Grasshopper Mower
S = 6 cyl 2403-M = 03-M Series Turbo Application Libra = Libra, Compact and Vermeer mini-excavators

V 2203 DI T EB RAND 3
Engine Displacement Injection Type Emission Certification Level
Example: DI = Direct Injection EB = Tier 1 Industrial EBG = Tier 1 Generator
482 = 480cc Blank = Indirect Injection E2B = Tier 2 Industrial E2BG = Tier 2 Generator
902 = 900cc E3B = Tier 3/Interim Tier 4 Ind. E3BG = Tier 3/Interim Tier 4 Gen.
1702 = 1700cc B = Pre Tier 1 Industrial BG = Pre Tier 1 Generator
2203 = 2200cc
