INTRODUCTION

1.1. PURPOSE OF THE SERVICE MANUAL

This manual includes servicing and maintenance information for OT 32VS Bench Top
Steam Sterilizer. It is prepared to be used by technicians who were formerly trained by
Nuve. This manual informs the technicians about the operating principles, diagnosing
and repairing methods and spare part replacing.
If any problem determined which is not identified in this manual, please contact to Nuve
Servicing Team.

1.2 GENERAL PURPOSE

The heating function is provided by means of the heater placed outside the sterilization
chamber and steam generator. The sterilization cycle consists of the vacuum, heating,
sterilization, steam discharge and drying phases.

Vacuum: When the device is started, the vacuum cycle starts. The chamber pressure is
reduced under the ambient pressure and the air is discharged. The steam is taken in
the chamber instead of the air. According to the chosen program, it repeats.

Heating: Before the sterilization cycle, the sterilization chamber is heated to reach
enough steam temperature.

Sterilization: When the sterilization chamber temperature reaches the set temperature
sterilization starts. The sterilization chamber is kept at the required temperature and
pressure for the set time.

Steam Discharging and Drying: During the steam discharge phase, the steam in the
sterilization chamber is discharged and after the pressure has dropped to zero, the
vacuum pump is operated for drying. During drying, the air intake is ensured by opening
the air intake solenoid valve and taking in fresh air after it has been passed through
biological filter.

SECTION 2

OPERATING PRINCIPLES

2.1. GENERAL OVERVIEW

The OT 32VS can be split into 4 main groups,

• Power supply values

• Control unit
• Heating unit
• Water and Steam unit

2.2. EXPLANATIONS FOR THE FUNCTIONS

2.2.1. Power Supply

The power supply values are listed below.

Fuse Power Power Inlet Jacket Heater Steam Generator

Supply Type Power
OT 32VS 16 A 2500 W 230 V∼ 50 Hz. Leaf Heater 2000 W
500 W

2.2.2. Main PCB

The microprocessor controlled main PCB operates on “proportional” heating system.

The main PCB first starts vacuum cycle and the chamber pressure is reduced under
the ambient pressure and the air is taken in the chamber. Then PCB prepares steam at
the required temperature and pressure in the sterilization chamber. It carries out the
sterilization, steam discharge and drying phases as explained in the section 1.2. At the
end of the phases, the sterilizer warns the users with an audible alarm that the cycle has
ended.

4
2.2.3. Control Panel

The illustration below shows the functions of the control panel. For more information,
please see the OT 32VS user’s manual.

Figure – 1 OT 32VS Control Panel

F1, F2, F3, F4 butons functions are changing according to the commands which show
on the screen. So it is showsed by ‘F’ letter.

2.2.4 Heating Unit

OT 32VS is heated by leaf type heater which is placed outside the chamber and steam
generator. The safety operation is provided by surface thermostat on the jacket and the
safety valve on the steam generator.

5
2.2.4. Water and Steam Unit

The steam needed for the sterilization is generated by boiling the distilled water which is
taken from the water tank to the sterilization chamber.

The pressure in the sterilization chamber is followed digitally on the pressure display by
means of the pressure transmitter which is connected to the chamber.

The steam charge, steam discharge, air intake and vacuum line solenoid valves are
operated as explained in Section 1.2. by the main PCB.

The pressure transmitter, which is to protect the user and the steam sterilizer, measures
continuously the pressure in the chamber and it helps the main PCB to decide the
stopping of the operation in case of excess pressure. Additionally, it does not let the lid
lock release at the end of the operation if it measures any pressure inside the chamber.

The sterilization chamber safety valve operates if the pressure inside the chamber
exceeds 3 Bar and it discharges the excess steam which leads to over-pressure.

The reserve tank, which is upside the device, consists two parts. Bigger tank (left) is
depot part and smaller tank (right) is drain part. The necessary water for sterilization is
filled the depot part and the condens are sent to the drain part. This part should be
empty.

The components of the water and steam unit are listed below,

• Reserve tank
• Steam Generator
• Steam discharge solenoid valve
• Vacuum Block solenoid valve
• Water Filling Solenoid Vale
• Vacuum Line Solenoid Valve
• Water pump
• Vacuum pump
• Safety valve (3 Bar)

SERVICING
Caution: Before servicing the instrument, please take the necessary precautions
for your health. Please respect to the warnings on the unit!!

Please make sure that you have disconnected the unit before you service it.

3.1. GENERAL OVERVIEW

The failures can be diagnosed according to the following tables.

Most of the arising problems can be determined by the help of a multimeter.

The components on the main PCB must not be replaced even the failure is caused by
one of the components on the main PCB. In this case, please send the failed PCB to
factory service along with a note on which the failure explanations are written.

Before replacing the PCB or any control element, please make sure that the failure is
not caused by weak wire and terminal connections.

3.5 SSR CONTROL

SSR has 4 terminals. 1&2 numbered terminals are used for phase passing, 3&4
numbered terminals are connected to the main card. 3 numbered terminal is connected
to outlet of the main card (+), 4 numbered terminal is connected to outlet of the main
card (-). 1 numbered terminal is inlet of the phase and 2 numbered terminal is outlet of
the phase. Controlled circuit component (heaters, compressor, solenoid valve, etc.) is
connected to 2 numbered terminal.

1. State : There is voltage on the main card and 1&2 numbered terminals are open
circuit,
2. State : There is no voltage on the main card and 1&2 numbered terminals are short
circuit.

At the first state; if you connect an heater to 2 numbered terminal, it does not heat. And
if you connect an cooling element to 2 numbered terminal, it does not cool.
At the second state; if you connect an heater to 2 numbered terminal, it can not control
heating and overheats. And if you connect an cooling element to 2 numbered terminal, it
can not control cooling.

 Controlling of the first state;

When the device is switch off position, disconnect 1 numbered terminal from the main
card. The terminal of the cable must not touch to anywhere, please isolate it.
If the device does not heat, set it to high temperature and start. Check 3&4 numbered
terminal if there is DC voltage or not. If there is DC voltage, it means the main card is
working properly. In this case, check 1&2 numbered terminals if they are short circuit or
not. If there is no short circuit and there is open circuit, it means SSR is defective. If
there is short circuit and there is no open circuit, it means SSR is not defective.

 Controlling of the second state;

When the device is switch off position, disconnect 1 numbered terminal from the main
card. The terminal of the cable must not touch to anywhere, please isolate it.
If the device is overheating, set it to low temperature and start. Check the SSR, after the
temperature exceed the set temperature. Check 3&4 numbered terminal if there is DC
voltage or not. If there is no DC voltage, it means the main card is not working properly.
In this case, check 1&2 numbered terminals if they are open circuit or not. If there is no
open circuit and there is short circuit, it means SSR is defective. If there is open circuit
and there is no short circuit, it means SSR is not defective.
