I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the images formed by the
different types of mirrors and lenses
B. Performance Standards
The learners should be able to make an improvised optical device using a lens.
C. Learning Competencies
The learners should be able to predict the qualitative characteristics (orientation,
type, and magnification) of images formed by plane and curved mirrors and lenses.

C. Science Concepts
Convex lenses are thicker at the middle. Rays of light that pass through
the lens are brought closer together (they converge). A convex lens is a
converging lens.
When parallel rays of light pass through a convex lens the refracted rays
converge at one point called the principal focus.
The distance between the principal focus and the centre of the lens is
called the focal length.
E. Subject Integration:
English – oral communication
Mathematics – calculating the focal length and measuring the d o and di.
Health – eye defects: hyperopia or farsightedness
Values Education – respecting other learner’s idea

Teacher’s Response Student’s Response
Yesterday, you learned about refraction of Sir, the refraction of light or bending of
light. Can you tell something about our light happens if light travelled from a less
lesson yesterday? dense to a denser medium. Example is air
to water.
Very Good! How will you describe the Sir, the direction of light when it passes
direction of refracted ray when it passes through a less dense to a denser medium
through a less dense to a denser medium is that the refracted ray will move towards
and vice versa? the normal line.
But when it passes to a denser to a less
dense material, the refracted ray moves
away from the normal line.
However Sir, there is a certain condition
when it reaches its critical angle the total
Very well said class! Do you have any internal reflection occurs
more questions on our previous lesson?
None Sir!
Remember class, that transparent
optically dense materials can change the
direction of light.
c. Motivation
Teacher’s Response Student’s Response
Do you have any idea about lens? Sir, a lens is a transparent object made
from glass and can bend or refract light.
Excellent answer! A Lens is a transparent
material that can refract light and
produces either magnified or reduced size
of an image and that depends on which
type or lens you use.
Before we start our lesson, I have here
sets of lenses and I would like you to
describe each lens and classify them as
Concave or Convex Lens.
(Show diagram of Concave and Convex
Lens to be used by learners as references Yes sir!
in classifying the given lenses)
To learn more about the these lenses, particularly convex Yes Sir
lens , you will be performing the activity “Finding the Focal
Length of a Convex Lens”
Before you start the activity, class let me first present the
rubrics that I will use to assess your performance:

Its SCIENCE!
Cleaners please stay and clean the room
V. EVALUATION
Direction: Choose the best answer in each item.
1. What are the characteristics of the image formed if the object is located at
greater distance from a convex lens?
A. inverted and reduced C. inverted and enlarged
B. upright and reduced D. inverted and the same
