DEMO TEACHING IN SCIENCE 10

Learning Area: Science 10 Grade Level: 10

Time Allotted: 60 minutes Date: November 20, 2019

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the images formed by the
different types of mirrors and lenses

B. Performance Standards
The learners should be able to make an improvised optical device using a lens.

C. Learning Competencies
The learners should be able to predict the qualitative characteristics (orientation,
type, and magnification) of images formed by plane and curved mirrors and lenses.
Code: S10FE-IIg-50

At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

1. determine the object distance and the image distance from a convex lens,
2. calculate the focal length of a convex lens, and
3. compare images formed by a convex lens with the actual object, when the object
is at certain distances from the lens.

II. CONTENT/SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Types of Lenses
Sub-Topic: Convex Lens

B. Other Learning Resources

 For Teacher: Power Point Presentation: Types of Lenses
 For Learners: activity sheet, ruler, calculator, candle and match
 Science Equipment/Apparatus: convex lens, meter stick, and optical
bench set.

C. Science Concepts
 Convex lenses are thicker at the middle. Rays of light that pass through
the lens are brought closer together (they converge). A convex lens is a
converging lens.
 When parallel rays of light pass through a convex lens the refracted rays
converge at one point called the principal focus.
 The distance between the principal focus and the centre of the lens is
called the focal length.

D. 21st Century Skills/Science Skills

 Collaboration - cooperate to other learners.
 Critical Thinking - keen observation during the activity.
 Communication – present/share the result of the activity.

E. Subject Integration:
 English – oral communication
 Mathematics – calculating the focal length and measuring the d o and di.
 Health – eye defects: hyperopia or farsightedness
 Values Education – respecting other learner’s idea

c. Motivation
Teacher’s Response Student’s Response

Do you have any idea about lens? Sir, a lens is a transparent object made
from glass and can bend or refract light.
Excellent answer! A Lens is a transparent
material that can refract light and
produces either magnified or reduced size
of an image and that depends on which
type or lens you use.
Before we start our lesson, I have here
sets of lenses and I would like you to
describe each lens and classify them as
Concave or Convex Lens.

thicker at the edges.
Now class can you describe the lenses Sir this might be the concave lens

thinner center.

understand what lenses, particularly

investigate the images formed by a

the distance from the center of a lens to the focal point. The
focal length, distance of the object, and the distance of the

Class, we will have a separate lesson for the lens equation.
