PROJECT PLAN

Report 5
Successful completion of any project requires careful planning and execution. A large project can be
divided into subtasks, each of the subtasks can be further divided into smaller subtasks. Subtasks can be
executed independently and in parallel, several subtasks are dependent on completion of other subtasks.
Each task must be assigned to specific person(s) in the project team. The time required to complete each
task can vary. A Gantt chart shows parallel/serial tasks, the duration of each task and the person
designated to do the task.

Each task requires resources to complete therefore a tentative budget can be estimated by determining
the resources required for each task. The subtasks will also help identify the resources (components)
required which must be ordered at an appropriate time. An appropriate time margin may be considered in
the plan for any delays which may occur due to late completion of a subtask(s) or acquiring of resources.

Project controls and milestones must be established at different stages of the project plan to ensure the
quality and timely completion of the project and for any revisions in the project plan.

The following major points should be addressed when writing the report and preparing the Project Plan

 Gantt chart should identify all the subtasks, including their estimated execution time and person(s)
deputed for the entire duration of the project (FYP I and FYP II)
 All pre and post project tasks such as literature review and project report must also be shown in the
Gantt chart.
 Appropriate milestones should be identified to ensure timely completion of different stages of the
project.
