I. Write sentences. Use the correct form of the verb BE in Past: (WAS / WERE)
1. She / young SHE WAS YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL.
2. You / not old YOU WERE WATCHING THE OLD FILM.
3. You / sleepy YOU WERE SLEEPY WITH THE BOOK OPEN.
4. We / not naughty WE WERE NAUGHTY OF CHILDREN.
5. She / not short SHE WAS SHORT IN STATURE.
6. They / happy THEY WERE VERY HAPPY.
7. He / tidy HE WAS VERY CLEAN AND TIDY.
II. Change the verb Be into Past: (WAS / WERE)
1. Jane and Martin are friends JANE AND MARTIN WERE FRIENDS.
2. Elephants are huge THE ELEPHANTS WERE HUGE.
3. My father is an astronaut. MY FATHER WAS AN ASTRONAUT.
4. His cat is grey HIS CAT WAS GREY.

III. Make questions with the Past form of the verb BE:
1. Where / John? WHERE WAS JHON BORN?
2. Why / they / hungry? WHY WERE THEY HUNGRY?
3. How old / she? HOW OLD WAS SHE?
4. What time / the concert? WHAT WAS TIME THE CONCERT?
5. How long / the journey? HOW WAS LONG THE JOURNEY TO PARIS?
6. How / the food? HOW WAS THE FOOD ITALIAN?
7. Why / they / in the kitchen? WHY WERE THEY HID IN THE KITCHEN?
IV. Put in There Was / There Wasn´t / There Were / There Weren’t :
THERE WAS a church in Oxford Street, and opposite the church THERE WAS a swimming pool.
In the swimming pool THERE WAS a tennis court.
THERE WAS a small and many little shops. THERE WERE some restaurants, but THERE WEREN’T
many cybercafés. Unfortunately, THERE WAS a theatre.
