1 Academic Writing Students will cope with a variety of writing tasks, including reports, and short essays.
Most written texts at will be between 300-500 words for persuasive essays and 150-
250 words for written summaries.
2 Academic Reading In this course, students will develop their critical reading skills by the close reading
of a variety of texts, including novels for Young Adults, short stories, e-mail
correspondences, newspaper and magazine articles, and letters. Students are also
expected to write summaries and paraphrases displaying their understanding of the
text’s gist.
3 English for Communication In Communications, students will develop their speaking and listening skills in a
variety of social and academic situations. They will become increasingly more
proficient in delivering oral presentations in a classroom setting, and in effectively
using a variety of visual aids to enhance their delivery and message. Speakers will
communicate on matters related to a variety of academic and/or social events, and
listeners will be able to identify topics and specific details in a variety of
conversations,
4 Foundation Sketching and Drawing for Students will gain a working knowledge of form, space, shape, light, texture, line,
Designers proportion, perspective, proportion, volume and composition.
5 Creative Techniques Students will learn the necessary knowledge on how to integrate creative-problem-
solving methods into the design process in order to generate effective design
solution. Through key topics such as “Problem Defining” and “Idea Generation”,
which includes various creativity techniques, the module will help students to
approach design problem from fresh perspectives with the aim of increasing the
quantity of fresh ideas. The essence of the module is to provide guidance to students
on the creativity process of developing thinking patterns that foster creativity.

6 Observational and Conceptual Drawing The course will introduce principles of drawing technique and personal
for Graphic Designers interpretations in drawing as well as examining line, tonal value, volume, spatial
relationships and composition, form, texture, perspective and basic human anatomy.
This will allow students to develop confidence in their visualization drawing skills as a
means of visual communication.
7 History of 20th Century Design and This subject explores the impact of new materials and production processes
Culture combined with the changes in industry and society that have impacted on designers
from the 20th century to today. Students will explore the history of the development
of modern design within its international cultural and economic context. The impact
of the global environment, mass manufacturing companies and new technologies on
design will be examined.

8 Colour for Designers Students will explore the principles, attributes, dimensions, harmonies and
phenomena of color. By understanding the language and meaning of color from a
social, cultural and psychological context, students can effectively manipulate colors
in their design to convey the intended message to the right target audience.

9 Design Principles Students will gain familiarization with the visual interactions between design
elements through theoretical and practical implementation of design principles and
explore various media, develop critical ability and also to demonstrate an
understanding of design principles through a series of visual communication
exercises.
10 Introduction to Graphic Design Students will strengthen their design skills through exploration of the fundamentals
knowledge in graphic design such as semiotics, pictogram, elements of graphic
design, principles within various graphic design disciplines and etc. The module also
covers the history and ethical practice in graphic design with emphasis on the roles
and responsibilities of a graphic designer in the ever-changing industry.

11 Fundamentals of Typography Students will be required to research on history of type and develop understanding
on aesthetic, structure typeface letterforms and managing hierarchy of information in
typographic context. By understanding the principles of typography, students should
have the ability to improve the meaning of a message, explore various aspects of
digital typography, express and communicate idea to improve the quality of design
thought.
12 Digital Photography Throughout these topics, students will be taught the importance of photography as
an important visual element of communication as a medium of expression. This
module will also encompass; photographic vocabulary, framing, composition, "rule of
thirds", lighting, texture, pattern, lines, depth of field, perspective, space and color.
Students will be expected to demonstrate an ability to use the digital media and tools
competency in their final photographic project

13 Digital Image Processing Students will improve their visualizing technique and produce complex digital images,
exploring technical and aesthetic aspects of the image manipulation processes such
as digital image creation with an emphasis on photo-illustration, and hybrid
illustration techniques, image capture, compositing, retouching, stylistic treatments,
shading, and simulated three-dimensional imagery aspects of the manipulation
processes most widely used in the visual communication industry

14 Fundamentals of Page Layout Students will also learn the process of a page composition by placing and arranging
text and graphic within a design and how these elements are positioned, both in
relation to another within the overall design will affect the content to be viewed by
the intended audience.

15 Digital and Applied Illustration Concentrating on digital illustration, this module encourages students to experiment
through drawing skills combined with computer illustration software to produce a
dynamic body of work / vector graphics to create designs that clearly communicate
ideas and information within Visual Communication and commercial context.

16 Graphic Print Production The course covers preparation of digital files for output and reproduction, colour
management, colour separations, colour proofing, selection of paper materials, paper
and ink, various printing processes, production cost and design considerations. Upon
completion, students should be able to prepare digital files and select appropriate
print output methods for their design solutions.

17 Identity System Design Students will learn the basic approaches and essential knowledge of creating
effective visual identity system, which contributes to generating and sustaining
positive brand image. Students will also examine the relationship between visual
identity system and the strategic brand development by means of research, study
and analysis, which will culminate in the form of a brand manual.

18 Packaging Design Students will explore on packaging design development processes, functions,
materials, structures, production, printing methods and presentation purposes as well
as economic, environmental and sustainability issues associating with packaging
design. They will learn how to use principle and elements of designs, choice of
materials and printing options to create packages that stand out as effective
marketing tools.
19 Publication Design Students will learn to define style guides, create mastheads, generate content and
maintain consistency throughout a major publication project within a group setting.
Students will continue to build upon the principles they learned in page layout design
principles, advanced layout & production and graphic print production by using
dynamic grid systems, professional binding techniques, choosing appropriate paper
stocks and working with special printing effects & finishes and manage the
publication design process accordingly to their defined timeline and budget.

20 Portfolio This module will emphasizes on review and revision of assignments, creative self-
assessment, portfolio preparation, resumes writing, presentation skills and job
interview. At the end of the module, students will have acquired the experience and
portfolio to job seeking opportunity for an internship position.

Compulsory Modules
1 Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi 1 Modul ini membolehkan pelajar berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Melayu asas yang
meliputi situasi kehidupan harian pelajar bukan warganegara di Malaysia. Kebolehan
menguasai dan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Melayu akan memudahkan urusan
dalam pelbagai situasi harian.
2 Pengajian Malaysia 2 Kursus ini menghuraikan tentang warganegara Malaysia yang berwawasan dan
mampu menghadapi cabaran ke arah mencapai kesejahteraan hidup serta dapat
menghayati peranan Malaysia di peringkat antarabangsa. Kursus ini memberi
penghayatan tentang sejarah dan politik, perlembagaan Malaysia, kemasyarakatan
dan perpaduan, pembangunan negara dan isu-isu keprihatinan negara.

3 Teamwork and Leadership This course covers information about teams and their importance in the modern
workplace both in-person and virtual. Leadership and examples of leadership in
different settings and contexts will be discussed to provide a comprehensive
understanding to the students. Students will explore their potential for leadership.
Topics such as leadership and participation, goal setting and decision making,
meeting etiquette, virtual teamwork, and how to handle pitfalls such as conflict and
problematic personalities will be covered. With the understanding of teams and
leaders, students will apply their learning to practical activities about how a team can
operate effectively and achieve its goals.

4 Malaysian Economy This course provides the student with an overview of the Malaysian economy. Topics
such as macroeconomic policies, development of agriculture, industrial policy and
industrialization, innovation and technological progress and privatization of
infrastructure services in Malaysia will be covered in this course.

5 Co-Curricular The module will foster academic learning, personal and career development,
strengthened sense of community and build communication and leadership skills
among the students.
