INSULATING SEALS
Project: Amal to Ras lanuf 30 and 36 Transfer
BDM01-PR-20/04
I. SUBJECT:
The purpose of this specification is to define the acceptance conditions for one-piece
insulating gaskets intended to equip high-pressure (80 bar) natural gas transmission pipelines,
Comply with the requirements of the codes and standards referenced in the
technical specifications ST0000/1026.
- Mechanical properties;
- markings (e.g. casting number, sheet metal number, pipe number etc.);
- casting analysis.
If the basic materials are welded pipes, the certificate must also mention the results of the
inspection of the pipe and in particular the results of the destructive and non-destructive tests
of the welds.

The height of the test specimens must be equal to the thickness of the product.
Requirement
- The values for tensile strength, yield strength and elongation guaranteed by the basic
standards must be observed and in addition:
The ratio (yield strength / tensile strength) must be less than 0.85.
- Minimum value per specimen: 35J/cm2; this value can be lowered to 28J/cm2 for a
single specimen in the series.
IV. Manufacturing
The manufacturing procedure for one-piece insulating gaskets shall include, where applicable, heat
treatments, chemical compositions, mechanical and hydrostatic tests, non-destructive inspections,
dimensional checks, final inspections etc.
All insulating joints shall be supplied with ends prepared in accordance with ANSI B 16.25,
latest edition.

The manufacturer will perform radiographic and Ultrasonic inspection at 100 of the welds.
Mechanical property
A hydraulic resistance test at. 1, 5x80 bar = 120 bar will be applied to the joints for 24
hours and controlled by a recording manometer.
Resilience tests
The sleeves and coupling shall be impact tested in accordance with technical requirements
ST0000/1002 and ST0000/1003.
The following tests may be requested in order to verify the characteristics of the insulating materials:
In addition, the transverse resistivity of the sample may be required to be measured before and
immediately after the first water absorption test. The difference between the two values shall not
exceed 100 megohms cm2/cm.
- Measurement of the electrical resistance between two conductive parts of the insulating joint. This
resistance must be greater than 1 megohm.

- Dielectric strength test of each insulating joint at a voltage of 5000 volts for one minute.
- Ultrasonic inspection of the ends of the soda ends = cuffs over a minimum of 25 cm.
VI. PACKING
The representative of the Client or of the approved inspection body shall carry out a visual check of
the fixing and effectiveness of the fillings and chamfer protectors used for dispatch.
