Dear Student
This tutorial letter provides information on where you can find feedback to the assignments you submitted
on the IOP1501 module site. In addition you will find an overview of the exam, which you do not write at a
venue, but submit online in the same manner as you submitted your assignments this semester.
1. FEEDBACK ON ASSIGNMENTS
Students receive feedback on the assignments, online, after the due date. To view this feedback, access
the IOP1501 module and view the feedback under the Online Assessment tab.
Keep this tutorial letter in a safe place because it is an important source of information about the
examination.
PLEASE NOTE:
You would have gained admission to the online examination by submitting Assignments 01 on time.
Assignments 01, 02, 03 and 04 each contributes 25% to the year mark (which in turn contributes 40% to
your final mark).

Announcements regarding the scope of the November 2019 examination will be posted on the myUnisa
site.
The summative assessment for this module IOP1501 is a non-venue based online exam.
You can only gain entrance to the exam IF you have submitted Assignment 01.
Students are afforded the opportunity to complete the exam at any time after the submission of Assignment
01.
Regardless of when the examination is submitted, once the exam has been submitted, it will be recorded
on the system and no further attempts will be granted for any reason.
The examination for this module is a non-venue-based online examination which is conducted via
myUnisa’s Online Assessment tool (the same tab used for the assignments). The purpose of Assignment
04, which is the mock-examination, is to prepare you for this online examination. The format will be similar,
namely multiple-choice questions, which includes case studies.
Follow the announcements on the module site for more information about the exam.
Remember that the questions may be either theoretical or practical. The examination questions will mostly
assess central ideas or concepts covered in the IOP1501 module. Also, make sure that you can answer
the questions implied by the learning outcomes set at the beginning of each chapter, and take note of the
assessment criteria on pp 23 to 28, section 6.2 in Tutorial Letter IOP1501/101/3/2019.
The questions in the assignments are indications of the types of question that can be asked in the
examination. Although some assignment questions may be included, the majority of examination questions
will be new. We want to encourage you to study thoroughly and with insight, and not merely to memorise
answers to speculative questions.

You can submit from home or your place of work should you have permission from your employer.
Alternatively you can book a time and day at a Unisa telecentre to sit for your exam. We suggest that you
select a quiet place where you will not be interrupted.
The online examination will consist of 50 MCQs, randomly assigned by the system to each student. Each
student will therefore answer different questions, but the distribution between theory and insight questions
will be the same for each student. Each student will also get different questions, so please do not try to
work together. Study as you would for a venue-based examination and attempt it as such – otherwise you
will run out of time. You will not get feedback on your submissions, as it is an examination.
The exam is presented in two sections, Section A and Section B. Section A is a timed assessment of 45
minutes and Section B is a timed assessment of 45 minutes. You can submit the sections separately on
different days or both sections on one day. You need to complete one section in one session of 45 minutes
you will not be able to save your work and return to it later. The timer will run for 45 minutes and stop
whether you answer a question or not.
Please make sure that you save after each answer. Submit both Section A and Section B to receive marks
for the exam.
If while you are busy submitting the exam and there is an internet disruption you need to take a screenshot
of the error message on the screen. Send the error message with your student number in the subject line
to bugmaster@unisa.ac.za and copy your lecturers into the mail.
The exam is set to allow you to submit a second time. We suggest that you wait some time before trying
to submit again. You do not need to wait for technical support to respond.
Please be advised that the second submission is not to be seen as an extra chance to do better at the
exam. You will not get the same questions as you did at the first attempt. You can use the second
submission only if you have experienced technical problems during your first attempt. Students will not be
assisted without the screen grab. If you do submit two attempts, the HIGHEST mark out of the two will be
assigned to you.
Relevant chapters for the November 2019 examination in Bergh and Geldenhuys (2013, 5th

Please note: Chapters 1, 3, 10, 11 and 12 in Bergh and Geldenhuys (2013, 5th edition) WILL NOT
be included in your November 2019 examination paper.
