Warm-up and Objective Discussion

Warm up

The previous class about simple past, sot the teacher writes on the board simple past (regular
verbs) and then, the teacher writes on the board three different regular verbs in past. They
belong to the 3 different -ed sounds. Students should classify them on a chart that will be on
the board as well. Now the teacher will give some other verbs, so students try to classify them.

Objective discussion

Now the teacher reads a story that contains some regular verbs in past but will omit the -ed
sound pronunciation, so it sounds like a present speech rather than past. Then, the teacher asks
students what they identified and if they think that it is important to pronounce the -ed sound.
Teacher reads the objectives to the students.

Instruct and Model R W L S

Teacher explains the students why these three sounds exist and how to produce them.
Carefully explaining the grammar and having students produce each sound individually. /t/, /d/
and /Id/. Then, the teacher explains the differences between voiced sounds and unvoiced
sounds. And which ones correspond to each group based on the IPA chart of consonant
sounds. Now teacher asks students to write some examples of sentences using regular verbs
and participate by reading them out loud.

Guided Practice  R  W L  S

Now students will listen to a dictation from the teacher, they will listen to 12 verbs and they
should classify them in a chart with the three endings /t/, /d/ and /Id/ like the warm -up
activity.
Independent Practice  R  W  L  S

Now students write a story where they talk about what they did last month. They should
include regular verbs to practice their pronunciation. They can use dictionaries or ask the
teacher about some ideas they can mention in the text, they can also invent some activities in
order to use as many verbs as they can.

Assessment  R  W  L S

Students will read individually each one of their stories out loud for the teacher to check if
they learned how to pronounce the -ed sounds. They can practice as much as they can before
starting the out loud reading. Then the teacher will ask them some questions where they
should use the regular verbs. E.g.

What was the last decision you made?

Where did you travel when you were a child?
How many places have you visited?
What did you want to do when you were a child?
What did you need to do this activity?
What was the last song you listened to?
