PROCEDURE TO FIND PROBLEMATIC TRAGE USING RMS DATA:

1. PRE-REQUISITE
a. RMSAT Software
- Use RMSAT software version that match the current BSS software (B8).

b. PMRES type-31 files

- This file is available in the OMC-R, in the directory
/alcatel/var/share/AFTR/APME/BSC/ …
- The filename starts with PMRES-31*.103.
- This file is generated daily, and there is one file per BSC every day.
- Transfer the files needed (filter by date) to PC by using ftp. (Ensure to
transfer using binary mode).

c. BSSCONF file
- BSS configuration file is generated every 30 mins in the OMC-R. It contains
the latest BSS network element configuration.
- It’s available in the directory /alcatel/var/spool/BSS/parse_conf/omcr[XX]/
- Ensure to get the latest BSSCONF file every time the PMRES files are
retrieved.

d. Microsoft Excel
Ø Needed to edit excel file (filtering file) and run macro file.
e. Microsoft Access
Ø Needed to open the ‘Base_to_copy_v2_3.mdb’ database and convert
the ‘TRX_RMS_Sample’ table to excel format.

2. STEPS
a. Install RMSAT (first time only)
- Install the software by following the RMSAT User_Guide_v1.doc document
(Page 10) that comes together with the RMSAT B8 installer.

b. Change PMRES type-31 file name & extension

- The PMRES-31 files to be processed must have its filename following the
format as follows:
- "BSS_file_name".”BSC_num”."BSS_name" ."file_creation_date" .bin
- Place the file in the ..\RMSAT\PM Binary folder.

c. Change BSSCONF file format

- The BSSCONF file format has to be changed to Microsoft excel sheet format
according to the procedure in RMSAT User_Guide_v1.doc document (Page
6).
- For example:
d. Create empty access database.
- Every time new PMRES-31 files are to be processed, ensure to create a new
Microsoft Access database for the data to be populated.
- Copy the empty database available in the RMSAT B8 installer
(Base_to_copy_v2_3.mdb) to directory ../RMSAT/database

e. Start processing file using RMSAT. Begin by opening the RMSAT B8 application.
Ø Go to menu ‘conversion’. Define the directory where PMRES binary
files are located and it’s destination after conversion. Please refer to
the example below. Once completed, click on the ‘binary / text
conversion’ button.

Ø Once conversion process has completed, go to menu ‘start’. Define the

path containing:
- Empty database (Base_to_copy_v2_3.mdb)
- BSSCONF file (already converted to excel format)
- PMRES type-31 files converted into text. Please refer to the
window below:

f. The conversion process above will populate the empty Microsoft Access database
file (Base_to_copy_v2_3.mdb) to the data from PMRES files. To proceed, Open
the database by using Microsoft Access.
g. Find table ‘TRX_RMS_sample’. Export the table into Microsoft Excel. (Open the
table, go to File -> Export -> create a new excel sheet).
h. Open the converted table by using Microsoft Excel. Copy the necessary column
(From Column A to Column CU) into file
‘Filter_Condition3_New_formula.xls’. It is recommended that this file is
saved as another file so that it can be used over and over again.
i. The Column CV until Column GV contains the filtering formula to determine
problematic cells. The final result is given as ‘TRUE’ in Column GV.
j. In case any of the lines contain ‘#DIV/0’ value, change the values in respective
columns FX to GE (Qual0 to Qual7) from value 0 to value 1.
k. Save and close the excel file.
l. Open the ‘RMS_Check_Macro_V3.xls’ file. This file contains the macro to produce
graphs and table for viewing the cell performance. Define it’s source and
destination path. If new paths are to be used, ensure to create the paths first.
m. Once complete, click on the ‘open file’ button. Excel files and pictures of tables
and graphs will be created in the predefined destination folder.
n. Check the result one-by-one (cell by cell) to verify the result.
