LAB 6

TOPIC
Accuracy Assessment & Mapping

OBJECTIVES:
1. To assess the accuracy of parametric and non-parametric image classification
2. To create map based on classified images.

Data Sources :
1. Unsupervised classification images as produced in Lab 4 (or Lab 4a).
2. Supervised classification images as produced in Lab 5 (or Lab 4b).

INSTRUCTIONS:
I. Accuracy Assessment
1. Display supervised classification image produced in Lab 5.
2. In Raster tab, select Accuracy Assessment under Supervised. (Refer to Figure 6.1)

Figure 6.1

2.1 Create Random Control Points (Refer to Figure 6.2)

• Under File, open supervised classification image.
• Under Edit, Select create/add random points.. Insert number of points to be
created i.e. 10 points. Select Random (Distribution Parameter). Click OK.
• Select show class attribute.

2.2 Matching Classification and Reference Data (Refer to Figure 6.3

• Under View, select Viewer and click in the selected image.
• Select show all
• In the image viewer, identify each control points and compare the class value to
match the classification with reference data. (Refer to Figure 6.3)

2.3 Generate Accuracy Assessment Report (Refer to Figure 6.4)

• Under Report, check the selected assessment in Option.
• Run Accuracy Report.

II. Mapping

A. Prepare Data for Composition

1. In this task, two maps of classification must be produced. Open the images in the 2D
View. (choose the best result from supervised classification)
2. At Home tab, click Add Views to Create New Map View. (or click at Click - New and
select Map View.

3. From Layout tab, Set Page Size or select the size of map from the group of Map
Template.

4. Click Insert Map Frame , drag and hold the frame within the screen of map view.
5. Select the data to fill in the map frame based on viewer (refer to Figure 6.4) or drag the
data from the viewer and insert to the map frame.
6. Click inside the View and Map frame dialog will appear (refer to FIgure 6.5). Select
option of Change Scale and Map Area (Maintain Frame Area). Drag box in 2D View
(enlarge and shrink th box by dragging the corners).

B. Map Annotation

1. Insert North arrow with icon . (Refer to Figure 6.6)

2. Click Map Grid button and click at the image in rectangular shape. Then, click
Horizontal Axis and click Copy to Vertical and click Use Full Grid. Repeat this process
and click at Vertical Axis then Copy to Horizontal. Select Use Full Grid and then click
Apply button. (Refer to Figure 6.7)

3. To insert scale bar, click Scale Bar button and select the representative unit for the
map (e.g. kilometers), click Apply. (Refer to Figure 6.8)

4. Insert Legend by Legend command button . Then, click at the image. In Legend
Properties window, click Class Names and select the features. (Refer to Figure 6.9)

5. Insert the tite of the map. Click Tab drawing-icon to insert text. in , select
convert to text.
6. Adjust and rearrange the maps element (annotation) appropriately. (Refer to Figure
6.10)

classification decision rules.

• Parallelepiped
• Feature Space
• Maximum Likelihood
• Malahanobis
• Minimum Distance

2. Maps of Unsupervised and Supervised classification image.
