: Hóngqí Gǔfèn Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī) is a Taiwan-based multinational computer technology and elec
cs corporation that manufactures desktop and laptop PCs, personal digital assist
ants (PDAs), servers, storage devices, displays, and peripherals, and provides e
-business services for business, government, education, and home users.
Acer's market share has risen rapidly in recent years. As of the fourth quarter
of 2009, Acer was the world's second largest personal computer vendor, behind HP
and ahead of Dell. The company also owns the largest franchised computer retail
chain in Taipei, Taiwan.

History
Acer was founded by Stan Shih, his wife Carolyn Yeh, and a group of five others
as Multitech in 1976, headquartered in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. The company was ren
amed Acer in 1987. It began with eleven employees and US$25,000 in capital. Init
ially, it was primarily a distributor of electronic parts and a consultant in th
e use of microprocessor technologies, but over time it emerged as a PC manufactu
rer. Acer began its foray into laptops with the purchase of Texas Instruments' m
obile PC division in 1997.
In 2000, Acer spun off its manufacturing operations as Wistron Corporation, to f
ocus on marketing of their core brand. Acer increased worldwide sales while simu
ltaneously reducing its labor force by identifying and using marketing strategie
s that best utilized their existing distribution channels. By 2005, Acer employe
d a scant 7,800 people worldwide. Revenues rose from US$4.9 billion in 2003 to U
S$11.31 billion in 2006. Acer's North American market share has slipped over the
past few years; while in contrast, the company's European market share has rise
n.
On 27 August 2007, Acer announced plans to acquire its US-based rival Gateway In
c. for US$710 million. Acer's chairman, J.T. Wang, stated that the acquisition "
completes Acer's global footprint, by strengthening our United States presence."
In January 2008, Acer announced that it had acquired a controlling interest of 7
5% of Packard Bell.

enhanced display performance and featuring increased connectivity options.
The ultra-compact Acer K11 is targeted towards customers on-the-go who will need
to take this little projector on the road often, maybe for business, watching m
ovies or parties.
Technically, Acer prides itself on the combination of DLP technology with LED la
mp technology for not only improved picture quality, but also being a little mor
e eco-friendly and reducing power consumption up to 30%.
Here’s what else has been incorporated on the Acer K11:
• Projects 858 x 600 resolution
• Brightness: 200 lumens
• 2,000:1 contrast ratio
• Supports 4:3 and 16:9 displays

• USB port
• Measurements: 4.80 x 4.57-inches; weighs 1.34 pounds
Release date and pricing weren’t mentioned, although it looks like this projector
might run for €500 ($683).
Comment - To expand their business and to dominate over the market Acer come wit
h new product. Acer is known for less price and better technology. It also grow
very fast in this sector.

2. Acer has no plans for iPad-like product, says Acer Taiwan president
Max Wang, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Monday 1 February 2010]
Acer will focus on pushing ultra-thin notebooks for 2010 and currently has no pl
ans to jump on the bandwagon to launch a hardware device similar to Apple s new
iPad, according to Acer Taiwan president Scott Lin.
Lin pointed out that designing an iPad-like device would not pose any technical
challenges for Acer, but said such a product does not fit into Acer s business m
odel.
Apple is able to support the iPad through its iTunes ecosystem, while few other
makers, including Acer, have comparable experience in operating an online store,
Lin noted.
Historically, closed platforms are typically limited in terms of scale and are c
onfined to niche markets. Apple has built is business out of carving its own nic
he, which means that while Apple could see success with devices like the iPad, o
ther players are unlikely to be able to replicate its result simply by copying,
Lin noted.
However, Lin said he believes the iPad is unlikely to impact the notebook/netboo
k markets as the two products target completely different consumer groups.
For 2010, Acer expects its large-size traditional notebooks to account for 50-60
% of total notebook shipments with netbook at around 20% and ultra-thin notebook
s about 20-30%. Acer will also push notebooks with a thickness of less than 2cm
as a major product for 2010, Lin noted.
Lin also cited research firm figures saying that Acer shipped about 31 million n
otebooks in 2009.
Comment - Acer do not create burden on his company. Because Acer want totally ne
w customer for i-pads and this also give competition to its own product like not
ebook etc.
3. Acer for the launch of its latest Ferrari branded effort, the Ferrari One.
As the name suggests this is a net book, but it s no ordinary Atom-based bore fe
st. No, coinciding with AMD s newly launched Congo platform and the company s jo
int sponsorship of the F1 team, the Ferrari One is a step above current offering
s.
It starts with an AMD Athlon X2 L310 processor, which has two cores running at 1
.2GHz and 1MB L2 Cache. It plugs into the M780G chipset and uses the ATI Radeon
3200 integrated graphics chipset, a marked improvement on the disappointing X125
0 graphics found in the HP Pavilion dv2. Key among its abilities is hardware acc
eleration of high definition video, so 1080p video is very much in the equation.
There s more to the Ferrari One, too. Intriguingly it features support for ATI s
XGP technology, allowing one to connect external graphics via a port on the sid
e. This sounds great and all, but if AMD is trying to resurrect this promising (
but quickly forgotten) tech, then the Ferrari One seems an odd candidate - even
with decent graphics it ll be severely CPU limited.
Moving to more superficial matters, the F1 is clearly based on Acer s 11.6in (1,
366 x 768) netbook, but features lashings of red on the lid and elsewhere, too.
It s a nice looking thing really, being slim and eye-catching without resorting
to garishness.
Hardware highlights, new AMD platform accepted, include Draft-N Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
, optional HSDPA and a 5,600mAh, six-cell battery. Dolby Home Theatre also joins
the party, but with prices apparently starting at 499 Euros (£435), a Ferrari pre
mium still very much applies. It s due to go on sale on October 22nd to coincide
with the launch of Windows 7, which is the OS of choice.
Comment – Ferrari is a well known company and it is known for his speedy cars. Wit
h the combination, both companies diversify their business and expand its busine
ss to other region of the world. This joint venture gives strength to both sides
.
4. New Smartphone from Acer-Ferrari partnership to emerge next month
Feb 20, 2010
Ferrari is normally associated with the terms racing and speed. Now with the ann

ello, Acer Vice President, Marketing and Brand.

nks to the results we have reached together in these last 7 years, we can affirm
that Acer products with the Ferrari Scudetto are the most technologically advan
ced of the entire line up,” commented Stefano Domenicali, Scuderia Ferrari Team Pr
incipal.
The upcoming Ferrari Smartphone is expected to offer its customers a great perfo
rmance and cater to all the needs of its targeted audience. All the innovative f
eatures of the phone are neatly packed in a sophisticated appearance and are exp
ected to sit well with trendy style enthusiasts and techno-geeks. The Ferrari Sm
artphone will include the Android 2.1 Eclair OS and portray the Ferrari and Acer
companies to be constantly in pole position.
The new Ferrari handset is scheduled to be unveiled to the world by March 2010.
The pricing and availability of the Smartphone is however still under wraps.
Comment – the joint venture of Acer and Ferrari give product which have style and
technology. Youngster like products with lots of features and style and new smar
t phone will surely fulfill their demand.

5. Acer aims for growth in Germany in 2010

Tue Mar 2, 2010 8:46pm IST, By Christoph Steitz
HANOVER, Germany (Reuters) - Taiwan s Acer Inc, the world s No.2 PC brand, aims
to grow in Germany this year and is off to a good start with first-quarter sales
above the 2009 period, the head of its German unit told Reuters.
"Revenues and unit sales are above last year s level (in the first quarter) so f
ar," Stefan Engel said in an interview on Tuesday during the CeBIT technology fa
ir in Hanover, without providing specific figures.
"And we are planning to grow this year, even though at a slower rate than in pre
vious years," Engel added.
Acer in February said its net profit of came in at T$3.51 billion in the October
-December quarter, below market expectations for T$4.08 billion but better than
the T$2.81 billion recorded a year earlier.
But the company has grown to become the world s No.2 PC brand in 2009, surpassin
g rival Dell, and Acer Chief Executive Gianfranco Lanci told Reuters in February
the company aims to take the top spot from Hewlett-Packard within a year.
Engel said corporate business, which was hit hard last year as companies cut IT
spending and refrained from buying new desktop computers, will recover this year
.
"The German consumer segment, too, will grow further this year and our goal is t
o stay market leader here," Engel said.
Acer led the German PC market in 2009 with a market share of about a fifth.
Comment – Acer increase their business with great speed to become world’s no. 1 pc b
rand. So acer wants to grow in Germany. In German peoples use more technological
equipments. And provide better technology at very cheap rates. To dominant and
rule over the IT sector is one of the main reason of the Acer.
